New Sport Design wheels
#1

I just purchased some 18" Sport Design wheels! Should be picking them up some time this week and I'll post some pictures as soon as I have them on the car which will most likely be Saturday (if it doesn't rain).

Woohoo! Congrats!

Can't wait to see the pics!

Get yourself (if you don't already have them) some good wheel cleaning brushes and buy some P21S wheel cleaning gel - Try "carcareonline"- they sell it in a supersize jug which you can then ration into spray bottles at different concentrations. I keep a 100% bottle and a 50% bottle on tap for cleaning.

Well, here she is with the new Sport Design wheels. Hopefully I'll get some better pictures today with the top down. Next up I think I need to get my father (an autobody guy) to repaint the quarters with the proper alt. of Grand Prix white, looks horrible in these pictures, much worse than in person.

They look great, IMHO! I think white cars look very nice with multi-spoke wheels (more than the original 5 spokes).

I hope you enjoy them! Now go out and invest in some good wheel cleaner and decent wheel brushes- you'll need them...

I'm not a fan of "wheels with many spokes" - but those look great on your car. Congrats.

I think those look great! How does the ride compare to your old small wheels?

they do accent the white car, and white cars need it - i have that problem with our white cab too

wheels are sure a difficult decision - what one person likes, another hates - what looks great on one car, looks wrong on another (even merely different colors on the same car)

i have almost exactly those wheels on the M3 - ayn loves them - i'd like to change them - i'm old school and lazy - i like a simple 5 spoke rim, with a nice dish at the outside - i have found myself liking some more complicated wheels lately, but still am too lazy to want to clean them

that being said, i am wrestling with what to do about the blue car right now - i love what i have, but would also love peeling off every ounce, and that means a busier rim

decisions decisions

"...peeling off every ounce, and that means a busier rim."

Are those really correlated?

I am very surprised with the ride, it’s a little more stiff than with the 16's but not much and the Pilot Sport tires have notably less rolling resistance than the Bridgestone's. Today I took off from work and picked up some P21 cleaner, brushes and a few other odds and ends.

Oh, and today I had a chance to look at a 917\30 wheel that was run at Road Atlanta in 1971 (was a bent wheel). It was 17x15 and only weighed 5lbs or so. AMAZING!

love the wheels! I know what you mean about the white. I have at least 5 different whites on my car. Under flourescent lights, it's quite easily noticed

anchorman - believe it or not, yes - distributing the load over a "busier" rim with more spokes means that each one can be smaller - the ones i am thinking about are 17x9 C70 rims made for Wheel Enhancement from HRE (i would do them in silver though) - less than 18lbs each - in the same size, with the 547 like i have now, they are nearly 20lbs each - wacky, isn't it?

the idea is to go with a 17 x 9, gain ride comfort, the ability to rotate, and not lose front width - i can make up in the rear with suspension adjustment

i just can't seem to pull the trigger though
