Hello all. I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 1994 968 blk/blk coupe with 8,485 miles on her. Although I do not have her yet (I reside in FL and the car is in Denver), I already began asking questions in the mods forum, thank you all for the detailed responses.

I have pics of her in my album I just created if anyone is interested. i bought her unseen, of course with an inspection and the numerous photos I had them send me, I felt i made a wise choice.

I also own a 1994 BMW 850ci with 20,000 miles on her. She is blk/blk as well. I will add photos of her this week as well, as I am entertaining the notion of selling to free up more money to mod out the Porsche. i am an active roadfly member as well.

I look fw to conversing with you all, and I happy to be on board.

Ego I have been watching that car for a while now I was not sure they would ever sell it at the $29K they were asking. I think you got yourself a great example!

Yeah, I thought they were way too high ($29,998) as well. I offered them $22,500. They came back at $23,900 and we settled on $23,500. I am sure they were turning down higher offers intially, its great what a little time and desparation can do for a buyer(the prior owner is going through a divorce)

Its a little late in the game, but I was reading about pinion(sp) failure. What exactly is that?

Cheers-

EC

PS Eric, I enjoyed your 968s site as well....sweet ride.

Welcome !! 8,500 miles is unreal - what a deal !

Haven't looked at the mods or technical segments yet to see if anyone answered your question on the pinion bearing, but it's a failure which some 6sp 968s

( including mine ) have developed, repairable for around $ 2k, give or take 10%. The tell tale sign is a sound very close to that of a jet engine taxiing on the runway, audible mostly above 40mph, in gear or when coasting in neutral.

Don't give it another thought until ( AND IF ! ) you'll ever hear it. Chances are you won't - in spite of the hoopla surrounding the issue, the cars affected by such are still in the great minority of 968s.

Enjoy it !!

Sorry for digging up an old thread.

I was watching that car as well, and I'm amazed at the price it went for.

Great deal!

An original condition car with that low of miles... WOW!

If I may, I would suggest considering leaving the "mods" part out for a while. These are quite nice cars right out of the box.

There are very few in original, extremely low-mile condition. I would consider treating it as a collector car and lean more towards original-condition-preservation mode. This may be the best way to protect your investment.

Just a thought.

I second Dave's post..it would be a shame to modify such a rare low mileage car.

Welcome to the group, you have joined a very special breed...gentlemen one and all (except the few ladies fof course).

WOW! What low miles!

The good news for you is that I have 144,000 on my 93 and it's still humming along as happy as the day she was created...

Enjoy many (s)miles!
