Just heard it for the first time yesterday evening leaving my office... When turning left and about half way through the turn, there is a single and distinct "clunk" from the right front. It hasn't happened when steering left, but happens almost everytime when making a left hand turn from a stop. Just on my way back home this evening from a 75 mile trip, I could make the clunk at will and something definitely isn't right. I plan to jack up the right front tomorrow but won't have any time to do real work/diagnosis until end of next week when I can meet with my P-mechanic and get it up in the air. I did have a small power steering leak that has been rectified and last time it was up post leak fix, didn't see any visible signs of damage from that which seems common. Could this be a wheel bearing or possibly steering related? Any ideas as to where to start? TIA,

my two immediate thoughts are sway bar bushing or castor block - those would both unload at rest, and then load again when you get going, and would be more turn related

flash, sway bar bushing would make sense...can you enlighten me about the castor blocks purpose?

I have had a clunk from the right front wheel only when I turned right, and not every time. At first it sounded like it was from the glove box, but then it sounded like it was from the wheel. I emptied the clove box but the noise stayed. I pulled the box to look for loose items but could not find any. I pulled the passenger door panel and found that the long metal support that the wind wing glass was attached to was loose at the bottom of the door where is attached. It may not be the same for you, but it is something to check when the obvious does not get rid of the clunk.

Here is a picture of Castor Block. Visual inspection will show if the rubber has degraded.



This is one of those "every car you see" problems.

Diagnosis In! The passenger side sway bar bushing popped out. My guess is from power steering fluid, so for those of us who have/had/fixed power steering fluid leaks, it must just be a matter of time before the rubber expands and explodes the bushing out of it's chamber. Cirsis overted and simple fix...no if only the parts are in stock!
