New carpet
#61

Really nice. They look great and pretty close to professional install from what I can see. Funny how the pedals look all worn and dirty next to that nice new rug! The pedals are about the best looking pieces in my cabin - time for new carpeting.....

THANKS GUYS!

funny you should bring up the pedals. I have a full set in aluminum (like the gas pedal, but I was not satisfied with the brake/clutch pedal quality so I did not install them. What I have been trying to find is a set of plain rough cast aluminum brake/cluthc pedals from Sparco. I had a set I bought 10 years ago but I can't find them for sale anymore. really well made without any fancy rubber crap or non-gripping holes.

final pics below. I could not find a solo tan plastic seat hinge cover so I bought a set of four new seat side covers from PICA porsches. Goes well with the rest of the trim. White trim on floor mats goes well with the rest of the interior, too.... and breaks up the solid black carpet.

I did not do the trunk yet because I'm still placing the crossovers and I also need to find some marine grade snaps and a snap gun. I also need to add a new piece of velcro to the front passenger well plywood and finish the doors. another thing I did was to seal off the stick shift rubber boot with a zip tie. with the leather off, much heat and smell enters up the rubber boot. I did not want the leather to be the only thing keeping the smells out.

I finally got to take my wife for a ride today, 7 months after buying the car. she asked if the airbags still work....gee, i did not have an answer for that one.

one final note: this car is now very quiet. Almost TOO quiet! for the first ten minutes of the drive, I was lacking the aural feedback that I had experienced for the last several months. It was a strange feeling. I went out again this evening and my mind is now better adjusted to the lack of road/wind/suspension/engine/noise. and the AC works great, too!

a little break and then this winter, the body work.

Thanks Lim. Putting it in is MUCH easier than removing the old stuff. I only used a minumn of glue so that next time it will be way easier!...or if I had to move some of the stereo wires...

Rxter: bought a set of new rubber pedal covers on ebay last night for 5$.......

Final pics on new carpet:

Did one door today and await a trim piecs before finishing the other door. My pockets were all broken and faded and went into the trash. Here is how I did the speaker mount.

1) Clean the speaker housing with soap and water. dry mount speaker and drill necessary holes, and get your cover hardware all together. test fit in door panel.

2) trim carpet to fit well with a little overhang especially at the long ends. Don;t trimout holes yet.

3) spray glue both the plastic and the carpet, wait 3 min, then stick together and add clamps where needed.

4) after drying a while, trim out speaker hole leaving little flaps of carpet that fold in when the speaker is placed.

5) mount door panel to metal door

6) mount speaker to housing

7) mount speaker housing to door.

8) I used home depot heavy semi opaque plastic vapor barrier on door to replace original, and I bought some new panel panel clips too. I still need to find a few black screws for the right look.

pics not always loading in order.

carpet seems to be seating well with the last few hot and humid days. I was a little disappointed with the fit of the right rear wheel well piece. It has a fold I can't get smooth. Other than that, all is well. Universal front windshield trim also staying in place.

Wow, that new carpet looks hot

I have black carpet and black leather, hmm... maybe I should consider doing a complete sound damping like, and getting some new carpet as well. Probably eventually. Great work!
