I'm looking for carpet kit recommendations
#1

Please share your experience with carpet kits. I'm looking for a high quality, precise fit kit from a reliable vendor that costs less than 1 PMU (Porsche Monetary Unit). 1 PMU = $1,000. Any recommendations? I'm in the SF Bay Area if anyone has a local recommendation that would be great.

classic9 offers moulded sets as well as cut and bound sets. Does anyone have experience with either type.

Thanks again for the help.

What about dying your light grey carpet to match the blue in your interior? That is what I was considering.

Yeah, I think the blue carpet balances out your two-tone interior. Funny that Porsche had the same two-tone but apparently you could order it with light grey carpet or blue carpet. The dark carpet is so much easier to keep clean. My car has black carpet, which I now appreciate.

while it may be a long wait (September or OCT) Sunset in Portland OR has TENT SALE that they sell things at 15% above cost. YOu just missed the Customer Appreciation day sale (same price) in January. Both were posted here at the site. Someone said that they charge this price if you are out of state all year long. I do not know if that is true.

You can get the 15% above cost anytime. Call them and ask about it.

I just called Sunset Porche and ws told that out of state buyers get the super discount year round of 15% above cost while a person like myself who lives in Oregon only gets its twice a year. They say they do this to compete with other dealerships. Does anyone know of any other dealerships close to Portland Or that give a similar discount? If i can find one I would then start to use that dealership to buy parts instead of Sunset.

nope. you can thank porsche for that one. the dealerships are franchises. this allows them to sell at whatever price they want. it varies widely too. unfortunately pcna makes sure that there aren't too many dealerships around, ensuring that they don't get into price wars.

other than loyalty or convenience, there is not much reason to shop at a dealership though. most stuff is out there from other sources.

Another dealership that offers the discount is Sonnen in San Fran, in case you need to order some parts outside of the 2 days a year in Oregon.

Yup, I can vouch for that. The differences for some items can be staggering at times. The only thing for which they can't set different prices are the accessories with a Porsche logo on it ( clothing, bags, key chains, watches, etc, ). But mechanical parts, or body items ..shop around, some differences can be as high as 50 % !

Good to know about Sonnen , would never even have crossed my mind because they are in Marin county one of the richest areas in California so I just assumed they would be more expensive than any of the other local dealers ..from now on I'll check it out..

Old school all the way... Cocomats! One of the reasons I want race seats that have the right period look. 60s/70s. But can be modded for today's harness setup. For road and track.

I ordered a carpet set from Classic9 out of Detroit. I also ordered their headliner and pillar kit.

I'll report on the results of the installation.

should be 4-5 weeks away.

I can't wait to see the photos after your install! You can thank me when you pull your carpet. It is an absolute royal pain in the a@@ to pull the carpet the first time. I was sweating and pulling and tugging for what seemed like hours. Porsche used gallons of super gummy adhesive. I don't know that I would want to do it again but once I started the job, it was too late to quit.

If the carpet is stuck on with adhesive first get a plastic bottle with a long bent spout, Then put acetone into it. Acetone will cut almost any adhesive and the bent spout will allow you to spray it under the carpet. Use plenty of ventilation maybe even a fan as the fumes will make you dizzy.
