New Antenna
#1

OK, I got the radio out. For those with Sony's there is a release tab on the top of the unit about 1/4 of the way in from the left. Flash sent me some special tools for this job, they worked great, I might have been able to do it without them if I knew where the tab was but it was a snap with them. Anyway...

I find the amplifier power connected. I then checked up at the antenna and it was 12V up there too.

So I need a new antenna/amplifier. I remember reading about using a VW Fuba unit that was identical to ours. My local VW dealer was useless. Only Fuba unit he had did not have an amplifier lead.

I searched on both forums for a part number and couldn't come up with anything. Anyone know the VW part #?

Also, are there any of the newer stubby type units with an amplifier that will replace the long mast stock unit?

My '93 CS has a 35 cm antenna, (12in.)

As far as I know that's pretty much standard for this age of car.

I know for sure (been there, done it) that any VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat antenna of the mid to late nineties is identical, including the build-in booster.

And I know they were made by different manufactures like Fuba and Hirshmann, the brand is not important at all.

I've now driven 60 miles going to two different VW dealers with the old antenna base in hand asking for a replacement. Neither have any idea, one dealer had two people looking at it trying to find something that would work.

Does anyone have a part # I can work with?

From the PET catalogue.... see parts 15-20 Probably lots of places to get it online - try Sunset Porsche in Oregon or Don Rosen Imports - here's the link to the antenna from their online catalogue @ $89

Interesting drawing in the pdf, this is not at all what I have!

On my car it is an integrated amplifier, no separate box.

And as said this integrated antenna is what I found to be very common on VAG cars in The Netherlands.

So there must be more solutions, it will depend on the hole in the roof what can be used...

Items 15 - 18 are for the CABRIO cars - the amp is separate from the imbedded antenna in the windshield.

For the COUPE - you want #19 the integrated unit - that is the $89 item from Don Rosen parts online.

I got the part today and it was an exact replacement fit including plug and antenna connection. www.eurosportacc.com sent it promptly for 36.80 including freight. They were back ordered on the rubber gasket but mine was in OK shape so I re-used it. I now have good AM reception and improved FM.
