New 968 owner in Annapolis MD
#1

Many thanks to Eric for helping me get registered. I have spent the last couple of hours reading the various posts. Lots of good information [yes, I already ordered a DME relay] thanks to all. Looking forward to sharing information. I have owned several P-cars in the past, currently have an 05 Cayenne S, an 86 944 Turbo [track car that I share] and now the 92 968 Cabrio. Always interested in car gatherings in the local area.

A couple of initila questions: The central lock switch n the console does not do anything, any thoughts? I can lock the doors manually and the key will lock both doors at once and set the alarm.

Next does anyone know of a source to find the cabrio boot cover?

Thanks again

Welcome, good to have you here. I used to live in Annapolis, nice town, I still miss the Rams Head. I surely don't niss the traffic though. Anyway I hope you find this board to be as great a resource as I have.

Welcome Husky,

Northern VA here...I'm not super mechanical/grease monkey as my background is engineering and electronics but always interested in learning and gathering/sharing info.

Cab boot covers pop up every now and again on eBay and there are some places out west that can source them. Black is usually the easiest to find...mine's blue. I need to replace a couple of the Tenax fasteners on mine and there is an upholstry shop in Chantilly that has been highly recommended by more than one person, so I'm going to go see them. I have to supply the Tenax fasteners, but they are capable of the repair. I'll post details like part numbers and costs once I have them.

Nice car...interior looks in good shape.

Welcome. I use to work in the building right above Carrols Creek off of Severn (great cream of crab soup).

I Like the twist rims. Are they 17" or 18"?

Well I fixed the door locks. I changed the radio to the new Alpine that will control my ipod. While I had the center console aprat I noticed the switch for the door locks was not connected. Pushed them together and now they work. Easiest fix in a while. New radio is great routed the ipod cable into the cassette storage bin.

The wheels are 17" I think, haven't gotten to the exterior of the car yet, but thanks. Carrolls Creek is a great spot, owner is a member of the Chesapeake region PCA. We had a meeting there once, it was my first and somehow after the meeting I became the new editor of the Porsche Patter for a year.

Steve - hope to see you sometime. I had an 05 997 that I bought from Brandywine Porsche in your area. Great dealer to work with if you need anything, go see Eric Niehof.

Welcome Huskydog - whoohoo! Great cars.

How about some info / pics on your 951 track car also?

My buddy is just finishing up a 951 project of his own. I've been looking at 944's lately and thinking I might get one down the road. Maybe to do 944 Cup stuff.

anyhow once again welcome!

PS- oooh - looks like your car is an early '92 with the recessed hood badge. . . kewl

Hey Husky Dog,

Thanks for the tip. I have visited Brandywine to drool over their large inventory, thanks for the contact.

Also wanted to mention I too had an Alpine installed and have the ipod connection routed right to the arm-rest. It is a perfect fit! Seems I never listen to the radio as the ipod has eveything I would want to hear on it. I also bought a silicon pad that I put the ipod on so it doesn't slide and insulates it a bit as it will get hot.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Wow I just realized since someone asked, I really do not have many pics of the 944 track car. I'll get more and post later. It is an 86 944 Turbo. The two guys I share it with are the mechanics, I just get to drive it so I may not have all of the stuff listed correctly. It has a full roll cage, a momo stering wheel about the size of a donut, two performance ships, oversize brakes, with some custom cowling to provide more air to cool them off, BB cat-back exhaust, 5 point harness on both sides, and some other stuff. Still street legal though so we can put the race tires in the hatch and drive it back and forth. Its our second track car. The first one was a normally aspirated 86 944, that we sold to a friend in Lancaster PA. The current one was run in the 944 Cup series by a guy in Gettysburg. We use it for autocross and an occasional FATT at Summit point.

That is my lovely wife going for a "test ride" at the last autocross. When I brought my first Porsche home it was an 83 928S auto in blue. Her first comment was "if we are going to own a Porsche it has to be red, black or yellow and it has to be a 6 speed". I am happy to say I have lived up to all of her requests. What a great wife!

Welcome, Huskydog. Congratulations on finding that nice-looking Cab! Mine's a triple-black Cab also...a '94. This is a great forum; lots of good folks here.

I live down in Calvert County, near Solomons, and travel to Annapolis every month or so on business. Maybe we could get together sometime and talk cars.
