After a couple of weeks of intermittent(no start) then start issues I took to shop and they told me what I didn't want to hear but that I have bad starter.I had been messing with battery clamps/cables(corroded) and did massive clean to whole setup hoping it would be that easy.Started right up(actually last couple of times I drove it fired up so no problem.This morning, fired up and drove to work and while at lunch(at shop checking on other vehicle) no start(lucky I was there)(and other vehicle was ready).What am I looking at (costs wise )for new starter install?

I had my starter reconditioned about a year ago and it cost me 180 Euro.

I replaced mine in February.
It had started exhibiting "Gummy Starter Syndrome", though I hadn't discovered this forum yet at the time, so I replaced it vs. fixing it as described in another thread.

The shop I took it to quoted me $550 for a new strater plus 2 hrs labor to install.

I then found a rebuilt OE starter at Pelican for $140 (after a $40 CORE charge) and installed the thing while I had the car at RS Barn for a check-up.
Max replaced it in 5 minutes or less.
I didn't know about Sunset at the time either, and wonder if they would have been cheaper than Pelican.

Got 968 back.About 400 dollars parts and labor(starter and install).Fires right up now.Little things that a 17 yr old car will have.Still fun to drive.

Had my starter replaced by Porsche dealer, but only because of circumstances. It's an easy job...the hardest part is getting under the car if you don't have use of a lift. Rebuilt Bosch unit available at local Advance Auto Parts for about $140. Always disconnect battery first!

Two bolts and a couple of electrical connectors...
5 minutes, tops, once the car is in the air.
