My "new" 968
#1

Newbie just getting up the courage to join the conversation with all you 968 experts!

I was researching 968's, without a realistic hope of ever owning one, when I saw a '92 cab advertised for sale locally. Driven by mid-winter boredom, I went to take a look. This led to a test drive at minus 10 degrees, after which a smile was literally and figuratively frozen to my face.

More research ensued, and I arranged for a porsche mechanic to take a look. His report was quite positive, and said he would buy it if I didn't.

Long story short, I bought it. 1992 Cab with 22K on it. I have to say, it is in remarkable condition, not a paint chip, ding, paint fade, on the outside, and the interior is perfect, except for the dead radio. As it sat in my garage for the wintry days of Dec and Jan, I found out that it had been used by it's one owner to drive 3 mile round trip to his airplane for the commute to work while at his summer home, and garaged the rest of the year.

Put about 35 miles on it when the streets were clean and dry in December and jan, and was thrilled, though a little nervous about the condition of belts, etc. as there is no written record of maintenence. Just this week took it to my new mechanic for a tune-up, after which I drove 75 miles for the 11 mile trip home with it running dramatically smoother, faster, etc. Work included stainless brake line covers; new water pump, plugs; timing belt; balance shaft belt; c.v boots; valve cover gasket; k + n air filter, fuel filter; oil filter and change; anti-freeze flush; synthetic gear oil change; brake fluid change. Came home from the shop with a stupid grin on my face. What a blast to drive!!!!

I'm thrilled to be a 968 owner, and a member of this forum which has already helped me through my initiation tremendously

I am (virtually) speechless...sounds like you found one of the best examples around.

Contact Jeff Coe (Jeff968) on this forum and add your car to his list (in case he doesn't have it already)

He can also give you some statistics about the car (how early, etc)

What option codes do you have (Look under the carpet in the trunk near the spare)?

It would be great to see you an some events, and we look forward to hearing more about your car...and of course, PICTURES.

Welcome!

Jay

Welcome to the group.

You really should do the airbox mod. You will be very pleased when you do.

Also consider putting in a NAV/radio/etc, since the radio is dead. I posted a DIY if you go that route. It makes the car feel like a new car with this cool addition. Also check out the steering wheel mod some of us have made and consider the chip from Pete at RS Barn.

Color?

You are 1 of 2,244 cab owners. Best spring/summer ride you will ever have is fast approaching!

Thanks hot968! It's guards red with black interior. Since the big tune-up last week, I have been able to squeeze in a ride every day. I cannot wait for Spring when I can put down the top and really hear that exhaust note.

Now if i could only figure out why my pictures won't post..... (Attachments added by Jay, does that count as "Moderated post?)
