I figured the racers would want them. If you wanted to go into "production," I bet you could sell several sets.

Finally I was able to get the lights weighed. New lights and supporting structure weighs 2,3 kg per side. Old ones are 6,9 kg per side. So the total saving is 9,2 kg. I gained additional 2 kg saving by removing the foglights and replacing them with the cooling ducts. So the grand total is 11,2 kg or 24,2 lbs. It doesn't sound that much but hey.. it's the little things that add up!

As difficult as it is to remove weight from the fronts of these cars, that's an impressive accomplishment! As I said, I'm sure you'd have several customers if you decided to market them.

Very creative set-up...... I noted that the covers are a Polycarbonate material, does it warm up significantly when the lights are on and the car is not in motion?

Polycarbonate headlight covers have been used by most auto manufactureres for years, and while they do have the annoying trait of yellowing on the outside from exposure to the sun, they have no problem taking the heat from the headlights. FYI, the headlight covers in common use are made of the same material as eyeglasses. It is very resistant to scratches, which makes it a good choice for both applications.



As I'm converting my car to a mostly-track car, I'd be interested in a set of these, although my conversion budget has taken a hit with the recent decline in the stock market <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm glad somebody bumped this thread, because I was thinking about it the other day. I'm definitely going to bookmark it. JarmoL, I would definitely be interested in buying a set of these from you if you ever decide to produce them. Or, alternatively, if you happen to have a few pictures of the process as you were making these, maybe we could find someone with fiberglass skills to produce a small run.

Guys, I really appreciate your interest. Unfortunately I haven't got the time to work on the car at all after the Nurburgring trip in September. (it was great as usual!) We have a 6 months old baby girl so I am sure you understand the lack of time!

Also to add that I have now bought a Manthey tuned GT3. I will focus my garage time to prepping it for upcoming season.



I haven't decided yet if I will sell the 968 or not. I really don't want to but we'll see. It's the only 968 in Finland with turbo engine so it's kind of special in that sense.



So.. unfortunately still no plans for doing the lights at this point. I just don't have time and interest at the moment. I will surely let you know if that changes!

Yes, I can understand why you wouldn't want to undertake the task of going into "production" with these. But did you by chance take any more pictures of the process of producing the lights, so that maybe somebody with fiberglass working skills could yuse them to replicate your results? Thanks.

I was two weeks in Finland with the 968 last June, not a whole lot of 968s out there anyway. Didn't see one, but my friend in Espoo has spotted a red 968 a couple of times. Not yours though it seems. Let me know when you sell, maybe I'll sit 28 hours on a boat again <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

The cooling ducts that you installed in place of the foglights are very sharp - I love how they're so nicely finished, instead of just leaving a pair of gaping holes where the foglights used to be. Did you make these yourself as well, or are they commercially available? The foglights on these cars are very heavy, so I'd be interested in replacing them with brake cooling ducts as you've done. Thanks.

I got the ducts from these guys: http://www.hahn-gfk.de/index.html They were around 100€/ pair but that was few years ago.

These are not on their web page. Just email them you request!

Thanks; I'll check into it. But I'll also check around to see if anything similar is available in the US. I see Paragon sells brake cooling ducts, but their web site only pictures them from the back, plus I'm not even sure if they fit where the fog lights live. I definitely love the look of yours, though. I did find a place that said they could create buckets for fixed headlights, so this may be in my future as well.

The website does not show all the products he is offering. Just E-Mail him. He also offers a lighweight hood for the 968 for example.

Dealt with him before and the guy is very reliable and has high quality products at very reasonable prices.
