Headlight Conversion
#1

Was checking out the "Post your car's pic" thread. Page 10 The Oz posted his with daytime "city lights"... apparently a Euro Spec.

HOW DO I GET "EM?? I'd do that conversion in a heartbeat.

Anyone ever done it? Know where to get a set? Thanks in advance!

From what I can see in PET european cars and US cars have the same light switch (993 613 531 00) and they both have 5w bulbs in the headlights.

For me to get my "City Lights" working I turn my headlight switch to the first position. I then get a green light at the bottom left of my instrument cluster that show my light to be on and that is the 5W bulb. When I turn it to the second position the headlight unit will come up and the H4 bulb will come on.

My guess is that it can all be done by wiring the switch differently.

U.S. cars don't have the 5w bulb or the socket for it. I wish we did as I think it looks good.

Nothing that a few superbrite LED's and a piece of wire won't cure

So what happens on the first position of the light switch?

On US cars the fogs light up on first position with switch on, which is my version of the 'city lights' or what we call in the US daytime running lights (DRLs). I run with these on all the time. Same as Oz without the 5W bulb in the headlight enclosure.

Yeah, fully aware what the difference between them are... my original question was, can we replace our US headlamps with Euro ones? If so, where do I get them?

I am not sure if this is a bolt on conversion. You might have to do something with the headlamp leveling switch.
