More pics of car
#1

Thought I'd take some more pics whilst sorting the dash problem.

I'm having to wait 8 weeks for the exterior paint as well as the doors gutting and painting which is a bummer, but I think it's coming along nicely.

P.S. the gearbox is out for cleanup/refurb and diff fitting.

It's so bright and clean and shiny. Cage looks nice and I can't imagine how long it took to strip it to get the inside clean enough to paint.

There is a reason the factory makes race cars as "body in white". How nice is that to work on? Looks great!

That is just too clean! At least you'll have fun getting it dirty.

Where's your fuel tank?

Eric,

Thought You would notice.

I'm currently working on running the brake and fuel lines inside the car so it is out for that reason as well as the gearbox. Forgot to post that.

Mark,

Ages... it really isn't worth the time really (I'd buy one already done next time!) but it is as nice as it looks in real life thanks to a lot of hard work. I can understand why I was quoted so much for a bodyshop to do it now.

Dave,

The main reason for the total rebuild was that it would be easy to work on and get the setup right to start with.

Shame it has to get dirty but that is the plan.

Graham:

Did you have to scrape the sticky sound deadening out with a heat gun or could you remove it with some strong adhesive remover?

Both really, heat gun to soften the sticky stuff and adhesive remover to get rid of the residue.

I then sanded and primed the surface for a two pack paint finish.

All in probably about 120 hours work including painting

But I am a perfectionist and not a profesional but a body shop quoted me £4k for the interior alone and now I understand why

I am a model maker and Industrial Designer by trade so it was not far removed from what I do everyday only a bit bigger

I had a friend who paints helicopters do the top coat though, he did a cracking job with hardly any runs (which I flatted and buffed out anyway) all in one go.

You have to keep a wet edge to get a good finish - I thought I would leave that to a proffesional
