I've got a 92 coupe with 110k miles. 17" wheels riding on Continental Extreme Sports (aka DW06+).  Less than 100 mi trips are fine, but anything more than that and the firm suspension wears on me. I believe the dampers are stock (not M030) and there is no bounce.  It's just a bit over damped for me.  Does anyone have any recommendations for getting a more compliant ride other than moving to 16" wheels?

You probably are already doing this, but on long trips with my wife I lower the rear tire pressure a pound or two for a little more cushion. Normally I keep them at the top of the range for handling, but a little lighter helps the ride a bit.

I've got a 987 with PASM and my 968 rides like a lot like then my 987 PASM is set to the Sports setting. Way too busy for road use IMHO.  Knowing that there is an M030 option, kind of blows my mind what that's like.     In PASM Normal mode on my 987, it's perfect for me. My 997 without PASM is somewhere in the middle.  Would be good if I could get to the same level of comfort as a base 997 or 987 without PASM.

M030 with standard 17' never has given me a bad feeling or a limited range. I can drive a tank empty without any problem comfort.

I have 17" rims as well mounted more then 20 years now, and never had problems what so ever with comfort.

Just don't go off-road with these cars :glare:

I have 17's with Koni adjustable inserts and rear shocks. They are on the middle setting and they feel very crisp compared to stock. I assume the light setting would be more comfortable than stock.

I have 17s, ride height lowered by 1”,  MO3O sway bars, Koni coilovers front /250 lbs springs, KLA coilovers rear/ 95lbs springs, adjustable gas shocks right at the middle setting .   Perfect ride for me, although my wife still finds it ( as a passenger ) a bit too firm .   Adjusting the shocks makes a huge difference however.

Bah - try riding in a coilover suspension with 18" wheels.     You can tell if it's a dime or a nickel when you drive over coins and anything more than a 1 hour trip causes any loose fillings to fall out.

 

I'm both dreading and greatly looking forward to my ~3 hour trip to Radwood in Austin at the end of April.    :-)

How old are the Conti tires? I have had several sets and they tend to get firm after a little age. I have Koni Sport inserts and shocks and on their softest setting they are slightly firmer than stock.

That’s what everyone told me back in 17 when I redid my suspension. I went with OEM Sachs and I’m glad I did. Fine for me on 6-7 hour drives.

I guess my setup is quite similar to what MCL968 and Dan have (except rear shocks). The ride is firm but comfortable enough. Definitely not crashy. Parts bought from Paragon Products some 8 years ago.

Part numbers below:

Rear - Koni Sport (adjustable) shock - part no. 8040-1035S

Front - Konis Sport inserts (adjustable) - part no. 8641-1414S

Font coilover kit - 2 Hypercoil 2.5" springs (spring rate 225, part no.1812B0225; Koni Competition bump rubber (x2, part no.70.34.95.000.0); helper springs (x2, 2.5" IDx4", part no. CS100); threaded collar (x2, 55mm, part no. TC55); upper spring perch (x2, for 2.5" springs, part no. MC-7510).

M030 anti-roll bar (front), std 968 rear anti-roll bar.

Konis are on their mid settings.
