would placing a thin rubber hose inside the doors/windows stripping ( seals, or whatever the hollow lining is called ) keep everything tighter and possibly reduce wind noise ?



Has anyone "tested" this in the past ?

you would be amazed at how little a misalignment of a door it takes to make wind noise - i would consider looking into that before adding any material - a few thousanths of an inch is often all it takes to quiet things down

speaking of which, I've been getting a bit more wind noise from my passanger door than usual. Bob, next time I'm at your house, can you help me realign my door a bit. Two people is so much easier.

sure - no worries - see if you can have somebody in the passenger seat push on the window a bit as you drive to see where exactly the air leak is - that will help me figure out which angle to move the door, though i can always just use the "goo" test

how can a door get misaligned without it being removed first ? and more importantly how could I tell if it's shifted just by a few thousands of an inch ?!



It looks even with the side panels on both the bottom 2 / 3, but to the eye the

top 1 / 3 does seem to protrude out a bit. However, since that's the case for both doors I'm not so sure that's not the normal design.



So what to do ? push the top of the door and pull the bottom part simultaneously, drive it, and if it's louder push / pull the other way and test that result ?

they sag over time - really no way to tell visually if it is only a few thousandths - you can do a "goo" test (call me and i'll explain this one) - you can also do as i indicated to eric with a passenger



the process to correct is easy when you know how to do it - it's complicated and potentially damaging if you don't - when is the next time you are down here?

he, he - I guess that's true for both genders. besides, as men get older the waist seems to rise proportionately with age ( that's why all granpas wear their pants riding so high, the belt is just about at "boob" level ), so your comment is not that far off from reality...just that in my case it won't happen for another 40 years or so.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Had nothing better to do this morning, so I went to Orchard Supply and bought

30 ft of rubber stripping ( the kind that goes on screen doors holding the mesh / net in place ) for a whoping $4, and for another $3, got 30ft of plastic tube ( a bit thicker than the stripping, not sure what diameter, but tested a sample first to make sure it fits) and inserted them all around the doors seals. Did the narrower one one first, drove the car, replaced with the tubing, drove the car again, and : no difference noticed by having either filler in place. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



Just wanted to test the tight seal theory ( hmm, tight seal..sounds like a walrus' dream date <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> .. )



So, waiting for plan B : Paso Robles "inspection" by the 968-savy crowd.
