unBBearable noise
#1

about 30 seconds after I left the parking lot this afternoon...a sudden ear shattering roar startled the **** out of me - my first thought : muffler fell off completely ! So not really anxious to pull to the side of the road and look under the car ( too many highway deaths happen due to that very scenario ) I drove really carefully for the 40 min commute home ( with occasional calls to Bob for guidance and moral support ), while making every driver on the highway wonder if a group of Harleys just passed by them, and speculating that a weld must have separated on that BB catback, I finally got home and slid under the car to see, much to my relief, that it was just a loose clamp which caused the pipes to separate ( where they fit into one another ). Whew ! happy now. having a celebratory beer ( yeah, as if I need a reason <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) and will get to putting that thing back together first thing in the morning.

Dan,

My B&B muffler is still a family room ornament/work of art. Soon as the weather here in Ideehoe warms up a bit, I'll put it on. Just for kicks and to scare the wife and irritate the neighbors, I'll rev it a few times at near redline after I take the stock muffler off and before I put the new B&B on. Can't wait.

Harvey,

First you might want to check if doing that - revving near the redline with the after cat exhaust escaping without any further restriction could do some damage to the engine... like valves, or something else ?!

If it does not pose a mechanical problem however, that could be fun, though

irritating the neighbors would be an understatement - the sound is deafening even a 3500 rpm - at 6600 rpm the sound resonance will cause cracks in the polar ice caps -
