Low Fuel Warning Light
#1

Hi. Is it normal for the low fuel warning light and high engine temp light not to come on when turning the key to the ON position? If not, is there a way to test it? I have been to the gas station with only 7 liters left and no low fuel warning light.

Thanks!

Mine do not.
I have had the high water temp light come on when I had a bad water pump, but it does not come on when I turn the key to "on".
I have never run out of gas, or been low enough to have the light come on.

I never had the low fuel light coming on ... not even when the car seemed out of petrol

I generally fill up before the light comes on, but my experience has been that the fuel gauge needle should be below the red (empty) line before the light comes on. Not very reassuring, so that is why I always fill up earlier.

I don't rely on the light anymore. I have pushed the limit of the gas maybe 3-4 times until the light came on. Once I ran out of gas, right in front of the station, so a couple guys in another car were kind enough to push me into the station.

I can't recall the spec, but the amount of miles remaining after the light comes on is very small in my 968 compared to other cars where I experienced the "low fuel" light. I just use the "low needle" method now.

the "reserve" is supposed to be 2.1 gallons (8 liters) - the reserve kicks in when the light comes on

the light does not automatically come on with the key on

i have seen it come on with low fuel - once - it did seem to indicate a little less than 2 gallons in there when i got to the gas station a few miles after it came on

it's possible the bulb is out
