Looking for a new Moderator...
#21
however, most who have met me, or at least talked to me on the phone, have a much better and more complete perception of me, and can see past that which they read in a distilled and abbreviated version online

[post="19031"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
True, and the answer is so simple to those who have met Flash: SCHIZOPHRENIA ! Must be. No other logical explanation, IMHO. Really not a bad guy, and that's an understatement.

Just keep him away from any keyboards

So bashing Sybil ( I mean Bob...or Flash.. if that's the persona you want to pick on..) would be kinda' like kicking Stephen J. Hawking in the shins

If you don't like his ( or anyone else's posts ) or the tone such may take - just ignore them and concentrate on those elements of the topics and posts which are productive and informative ( 99% of what's posted here, I think ). The other 1% is little more than entertainment ... whether conflicting, combative, or just plain aggravating...it's still not relevant to any serious matters in this life. At least I see things that way.. Gotta be able to move past all this b.s. !

That being said however, and being one of many who hold Dave in the highest esteem, ( having also met him several times, which only reinforced the aforementioned ) I am very saddened by his decision, though I understand and respect it; I think his role as a moderator compelled him to have more than just a passing interest in these posts and he felt they adversely affected sufficient members of the forum to cause his departure.. like he said - not fun for him any more, so what's the point ? Well, given that he was someone with the rare quality of having a full arsenal of technical knowledge and almost unmatched wit, his contribution to this forum is irreplaceable ! So I do hope he'll reconsider and return as a member, if not as a moderator.

This is about the saddest change I've seen on either .net or .forums. I've added one member to the "Ignored" list. Its not much of a a list, there is only one member on it.

I am adding my $.02,

I have a relatively low tolerance for people who have a lack of respect for others. This seems to be the main theme, from what I read on almost every post to which Flash replies, and it literally is ALMOST EVERY POST. Before I bought my 968 I lurked for some time all the while thinking who is this Flash character and why does he act like he is the end all be all??

That said, I think a lot of what Flash says is based on his passion for the 968, and after seeing this sort of attitude for some time now, I get the idea that some of the attitude may not really be attitude, but might come across that way IF you are not familiar with his "style". It might be more "digestable" IMHO if what Flash says was with a little less, "I know all", and "I know more" and " I know best " so get out of my way and my post.... attitude. There are a lot of experienced mechanics, engineers, racers, welders, fabricators, on and on on these list that actually know something, and it is somewhat insulting to (us) when the respect is left out of the reply. We are not all newbies looking for a Porsche.....oops no offense to the newbies!

It would also be nice to discuss topics freely in the web forums without having to move the conversation to personal email accounts to avoid conflicts and individuals who are going to "attack with attitude" any topic, which Flash thinks he has already; done, modified, had, bought, sold, tried, used, broke, fixed, built, rebuilt, blown up, eaten, burned, raced, flown, knew about years ago, painted, owned, spent millions for, leased, engineered, reverse engineered, shipped, designed, patented, wrecked, sailed, gene spliced, improved, photographed, won a nobel prize for, read, published, spoilered, despoilered, conqured, devised, delivered, enabled, and been there done that!

I would rather not turn off all post by Flash because he actually does have some cool ideas, passion for the 968, good experiences, and again IMHO is a pretty fair problem solver....of course I do find some entertainment in "watching him dance" as someone else so eloquently put it when it comes to different opinions Flash can definitely be good for these forums, it would be another loss to lose his input regarding our cars.

BTW, Dave G., I would miss your humor, not to mention your expertise, in the 968 community. Don't punish the rest of us for this, grace us with your presence

Copying this to .net as well, so don't waste your time reading it again over there.

Thanks,

Leonard

I'm one of the folks who has never met Flash but has had a number of exchanges with him - on the boards and by phone. I have to second the comments of DS968 - on the keyboard, Flash comes across totally differently than he does in direct contact. I've learned to expect that - one of my well-worn and personally created phrases that I use a lot is "Expect the expected". By that, I mean that if you have enough experience with someone to understand how they'll behave in particular circumstances, don't be surprised or upset when they behave that way - it should be expected. This is an attitude that took some time to learn, but has been especially helpful to the survival of my marriage of nearly 38 years.

Even before this most recent controversy, I'd concluded that what appear to be personal attacks by Flash aren't really intentional, and if the responder doesn't react in a personal manner, the issue disappears. I've also concluded that his creativity, experience, and ability to take real action rather than just talk about things (e.g., the "chassis stiffener") are attributes for which I'm willing to overlook his obvious keyboard communication faults.

In his response, I think Flash has done an admirable job presenting his persona. For me, there's now been enough said on this topic, and I'll now do what I've done on other threads that have - IMHO - done all that they can do. Signing off, with one final lament - Dave also was a great creator and contributor, and I hope he sees his way clear to return.

Flash has never given me the "mighter then thou" attitude from what I can remember. I ask alot of questions, of everyone, and I have never received a rude or nasty answer. My only weakness around here is that I might never get a 968 due to some life factors, like time or money. I plan to stay here for a while, even if I end up with a 944 or 951 instead because I know most of you would be able to help me with that car as well.

Flash was very helpful to me early on and continues to be a great guy, checks up on me regularly which I appreciate. Organized a great winery tour for us in Paso Robles recently.

I appreciate flash's passion for our cars and for everything he does. I can understand that some people might get a bit hot at times with his more assertive/aggressive style. But I also find that a lot of responses to his posts are pretty snarky also. And often times not as well-argued. So, glass houses, people. . .

I mean guys, come on, we all already know what it's like to argue and piss each other off.

Been there - done that, and there's nothing new to learn there.

How about everyone take a deep breath and let the testosterone come down a notch.

I say next time somebody starts to get offensive, we just take a step away and *ignore the post*. Come back to it later and if there's still a factual argument to be made, make it then when the emotions are calm.

I think working to bring the noise down a bit would be a great way to show Dave G. that we want him back.

Regardless - I appreciate all the advice and feedback I receive from EVERYBODY on this forum. I learn from everybody and try to be good friends - that's the whole point, right?

Peace my Brothers

Ok, that's enough good things said about Flash. After all, we don't want to get him too encouraged, do we?

I was away for a few days and saw this post when I got back. Not sure where the problem lies - I personally really haven't EVER felt that anyone has been taking over with too many or too presumed-expert responses. Perhaps my level of expertise is simply so much below most of yours that I consider every response to be at least a bit helpful.

I do note that the odd person who jumps in a bit aggressively seems to incur the Wrath of Kahn almost immediately by a wide variety of members - I find it a bit enjoyable and even humourous!

I have learned a lot from Flash and from everyone else who posts on this forum. Sometimes I even learn stuff I need to know.

Always keep in mind that the opinions expressed by others are worth no less than what you paid for them. They might even be worth more.

I have to say that after really enjoying contributing to 968.net for a year or two, I moved on because I got extremely weary of trying to defend any comments that I made towards posts from our friend Flash, who also had so many opinions it became a fruitless excercise trying to freely give away lessons learned from my own experiences.

I then experimented with 968forums.co.uk but fell foul of the owner overmoderating to the point wher he decided that he should delete ALL my posts. The reason he gave was that the posts mainly focussed on aspects of the 968 that we had experience with, i.e. supercharging, suspension and brakes, and this "clashed" with his commercial requirements. Fair enough, his ball and I'm not playing.

Unfortunately Rennlist did not have enough 968 traffic to be interesting.

So I ended up here refreshed to initially find a Flash free zone. Delighted to contribute since I had been in the fortunate position to help Eric sort out his supercharged 968 a couple of years ago and it was great to be in contact again. Then this happened.

Thinking about the situation with an open mind, at no time would I ever want to stop one person from contributing, especially Flash because he does have a lot of good ideas and opinions. But that said if you are reading this mate, PLEASE take on board the fact that many contributors have moved around the boards to get away from you for one reason or another, so you cannot ignore the fact that you tend to rub folk up the wrong way with the way you react to posts. For the good of all, can I respectfully suggest that you adopt policy of thinking for a few hours before typing your replies whilst also becoming more open to opposing views or ideas, otherwise I fear that for the second time you will end up being the "last Lemming" as everyone else will have jumped from the cliff in an effort to get away from you.

A couple of observations: Dave's post is at 11:54 PM on 4/11. There's a post elsewhere that "its a sad day" at 9:54 AM on 4/12. Sad day for who? Is the author of the 4/12 post a member here? So who's stirring the pot on this?

We will feel the lose, here, but not elsewhere.

While in LA, I enjoyed Dave's company and Bob's as well. Both were very generous in helping belt my car last summer. Considering them both friends, I spent time with each last Summer trying to mend the fence between them. No luck. But that's OK.

As for the East/West feud, its ridiculous. It is amazing how such a small run of cars can attract such a firestorm at times. No site is perfect. Most people frequent them all. What's the big deal?

As for the "parties" that seem to get into it constantly, I think Ron White says it best, "I had the right to remain silent, but I didn't have the ability".

One last thing: Eric, can we delete all of these threads that continue to dredge up this feud? I hoping that new members will not be put off by non-sense.
Am I tripping or wasn't one of the big selling points of this forum that there would be moderation of posts? What's the point of having a moderator who can't moderate?

The position's currently open...

[post="19033"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Count me out as moderator...I don't have time nor the patience to be needled.

I hope that Dave will continue with his very informative posts. If not here, at least on one of the other 968 forums. He's always given me unbiased and honest information that's helped keep my 968 on the road. It's too small a community to lose someone who's this knowledgeable and willing to share his expertise in some considerable detail. When my car was really in trouble, he went beyond the extra mile to help me troubleshoot the problem, even though he was busy with his own things.

Everyone's loss.

Gene you hit it on the head Raj tried to create a problem. I stuck up for a few people on .net that Raj "allegedly screwed over" this was years ago, ever since he has had his sights set on me. Flash has attracted some of that attention in the recent year(s). So anytime he has a chance to create chaos he tries. This is not the first time he has tried to bash this site publicly. Although IMHO he has yet again failed. Only making himself look like a fool. "It's a sad day for the 968 community" I clicked on the thread cringing thinking someone died. Only to find Raj trying to stir up crappola. He has made it public knowledge because of Flash that he will never come over to this site. Thanks for joining RAJ... you can post we won't bite.
