Left Turn Signal Won't Go Back
#1

So I picked up my '93 Cab from the mechanic yesterday after having a bunch of maintenance done, (timing belt, hoses, fluids, filters, cap & rotor, new DME, etc.). As I leave the shop, I signal left, turn, and the left signal keeps going after I straighten out. As I drive home I realize that after a left turn, as the steering wheel is spinning back to straight ahead, I hear a "click", but the turn signal remains in the down position with the flashers still flashing. I have to manually click it back. The right signal still works fine. The left was working when I brought it in, but since I don't think they went anywhere near the steering wheel stalk it's probably just a coincidence. Does anyone have experience in this area? Is there a quick fix? Am I looking at replacing the whole stalk unit? How much $? Any and all advice welcome.

Bill

based on other cars i have had doing this, it sounds like the ear broke, but i haven't really looked at it so see if it's the same as other cars

Yep, have to replace the whole stalk. Not terribly expensive new (around 200.00 last I checked) but used ones are out there for less than 100.00. This is a common problem on the 944/968 and I remember reading that some guys have implemented a fix wrapping tape around the "ear" that Flash referred to with some success, but I guess that depends on how proper and permanent you'd like the repair to be.
