Koni Shock Warrenty
#1

When i got my first Porsche a 1979, 924 it came with Koni Shocks installed by Porsche. The interesting thing was the shocks had a limited lifetime garentee on them and thee particular shock had a design flaw so I replaced the front struts more than once in the 8 or 9 years I owned the car. Does anyone know what the warrentee was on Koni's in 1995? If it was lifetime then I could replace them now for free.

As far as I know it is life time warranty to original owner. I had the Koni's replaced on my 911 a few times but had to send them a copy of my original receipt. Call Koni North America.

Actually I went to Koni's web site. It seems that they changed to rules effective 1980 which was one year after I bought my 924 in 1979. Koni's installed on the original vehicle are not covered at all. But if you replaced them then you would have a rcecept so then you have a warrenty claim. So I have no claim as they were installed originally to the vehicle.

How can I test the shocks to see if they are leaking or defective now?

yup - i didn't think they would warranty OEM stuff. pretty sure the warranty is not transferrable either, to prevent people from buying junk cores and sending them in.

oil leaks will be visible. gas leaks not so much, though it should have carried some of the oil with it as it escaped. a rebound test would tell, but you have to remove them to do that.
