kokeln rear delete kit
#1

What are your thoughts on this piece of kit, various people in the uk seem its a big no no, and the car handles poorly with it, heard today of a race shop that it makes the car rear steer due to the big poundage springs you use due to no torsion bars, all opinions are welcome, looking to purchase one this month hopefully. car is mainly for fun on tracks but will be used on road slightly. regards pazzer.

I'm a big fan of kit. Even though I haven't installed one there are several advantages over stock T bar and T bar carrier. The T bar carrier is big , heavy and offers lots of places for movement which lets the allignment wander. The Kokeln unit mounts solid, has redesingned pick up points and individual camber and toe settings that won't change under load like stock.

This is an expensive racing piece that is very functional for a track car.

Running coilovers only on the rear works great for a track car. Spring rate will be high starting at 400 and even going up to 650. Can I say "Not reccomended for street Use"

I don't think that shop knows what they are talking about. Running rear coilovers does not hurt the handling in any way. I thought the ride was fine when I ran 600# rear coilovers on my street/track 968. Everybody is different, but if it is not daily driven, you might not mind either.

The kokeln piece is nice but at $2500 it should be.

Wow, pazzer your car will be transformed!

FWIW, on my car 450f/600r on Bilsteins was a good setup and still streetable. The 600f/650r setup seems like it will be biased toward understeer.

You need to cross your eyes more. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

hint: there is only one avatar in this topic (so far) which contains a car without rsbarn on the bumper cover.

I'll jump in here...on my 944T GT3 car I ran a Kokeln rear suspension when I made the final upgrade to full coil overs, spherical bearings, wide body etc. with good result. Actually, Dwain built my "tube" custom as it was still in development at the time. Don't think I ever paid him for it...but that is another story.

For a dedicated racecar the improvement of setup ease alone was worth. Finally the camber could be set without having to fiddle with the toe. Plus, the trailing arm's pickup points were changed at my request to retain the built in geometry (anti squat, anti dive and roll center) for a lowered race car's ride height. Did I have some clearance problems with the fuel lines, yeah, did my $1000 custom stainless race exhaust have to be modified to clear it, yeah there too.

What I gained in the ability to make "at the track" setup changes that allowed us to dial in the car well beyond our current configuration.

Here are a few pic's of the unit. The custom spring plates were very easy to adjust at the track and really took the bother out of dialing in the suspension.

Maybe not. The fuel line clearance was a prototype issue, I think it was fixed on all the later units. My exhaust was unique and just too damn big. The stock exhaust or anything close would have cleared.

As far as Kokeln products go, I've been very happy with their stuff. I have a few odds and ends in my car as well.

As to the spring rates, I've gone to the Bilstien Cup suspension and use 650# front and 750# rear. I'm happy with those rates; but my car is bit lighter...around 2,600 lbs.
