Keyless entry
#1

Any recommendations/prior experience of what kind of system to install?

I fitted keyless entry some while ago, using a kit from "Right Click" off Ebay. Very cheap at the time and I believe a number of other forum members have used the same system.

It was really easy to fit, although I never got the boot (trunk) opening to work.

If you do a search for keyless entry or Right Click, you'll find all the info you need.

Well worth fitting IMHO.

Thanks for the info. I did do a search. Bulldog came up, but I didn't see "right click".

Anyone use a dual alarm/entry system?

Quite a few people including myself bought the Bulldog system. Works quite well and there is a DIY here and a lot of us who can help if you don't get the wiring or relay setup. My trunk works A1 with the Bulldog.

I think I may go with the bulldog mainly because I can get support from you guys. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I've read the DIY but don't quite understand the relay for the trunk piece yet.

Thanks for the info.

I memory serves you don't need a relay for the trunk. There is a wire (yellow?) in one of the harnesses that is driven from the Bulldog and I think that is before the in-car relay. I have my notes at home but it wasn't a big deal. The hardest part for me was getting a DPDT relay, I had to wire 2 DPST's in parallel as the local shops didn't have the right 12V relay.

I'll have to read through the guide carefully and see what kind of questions I come up with.

I have a Clifford system. The PO had it installed. It is an alarm and keyless entry. It even has proximity sensor for top down alarm. Reach into the car with the top down and off it goes with short bursts.

Is there a consensus on this topic? It sounds like people have had good luck with both the Bulldog and the Rightclick systems. From what I can tell, the advantage to the Rightclick is that it allows you to integrate the key and fob in one unit. Their website tells you to specify make/model/year, but only allows selection of make in the ordering process, so I'm not sure how they know which blank to send. From another post I followed a link for a replacement fob (http://www.rclick.co.uk/product_info.php...cts_id=320), which does allow you to enter the actual blank type, but this option isn't available when ordering the whole kit. Has anyone had success with getting a blank cut from the Rightclick system?

Also, is the consensus on the trunk release that it can be connected without a separate relay and/or running a wire to the back of the car?

Thank you!

I was thinking about doing this just a few days ago! I'm interested in hearing answers to videlicet's questions and how people's installations have held up.

I bought the Bulldog but I can't tell you how well it works, because it's still in the box, LOL.. The instructions which came with the unit indicate where the wires should be connected at the DME but do not reference which color represents which wire, and absent that info the chances of shorting something was too risky, so I put off that project on hold until a helpful ( color coded ) DYI diagram can be found. The remote trunk opening is essential so also need some tips on how and where to run the wire back there without removing carpets in the process, if at all possible.
