Keyless Entry Group Buy
#41

[quote name='Etnier' date='Mar 28 2006, 07:58 AM']Was this ever documented in a DIY format? I installed the Bulldog shortly before people started to discuss how to get the signal lights into the circuit, and would like to modify my installation.

I got mine at Amazon.com for $34 and some change. $10 2-day shipping and it was here in less than 24hrs.

Saturday we'll see how it goes!

It's kind of implied here, but if you go to Amazon and buy the system, the Amazon picture doesn't show a logo on the remotes, but when the package arrives there will be a big white "BULLDOG" on both of them.

If anyone else is bored at work on a Friday afternoon, you can disguise the bulldog logo with a sharpie. Yeah, I know it's ghetto fabulous, but it works pretty well, and like I said if you're bored...

Sharpie over the logo, let it dry for a little while (20 seconds?), then rub the ink off with your thumb. Most of the ink will rub right off, but a little bit of purple will be left behind on the white logo letters only. The more "coats" you put on the darker it gets. I started with a fine point sharpie, trying to just draw on the white parts, but since the ink wipes right off of the black part, you can just use a fat sharpie like you're highlighting the whole thing and it's much faster.

If you start by putting about 5 coats on the "G", then do the rest of the coats on the whole bulldog, then the "G" will stay a few shades darker then the rest until you've maxed out the available sharpie contrast. I've probably did about 20 coats total. The G and the bulldog are about the same shade now, so I decided to quit and see how it holds up.

Indoors, the logo has all but dissappeared and there is no sloppiness to the cover-up or change to the rubberized finish. Under direct light or outside, the dark purple logo still shows up, but the color is even and to me it looks way better than the bright white logo did.

I don't know how long it will last, but it doesn't scratch off with a thumbnail or scrub off with spit and a rag. If it get's to the point where it needs a "repaint" I'll post again and let everyone know that it didn't last.

I just got mine from Amazon. I am a bit confused on the install. Is a separate relay needed to open the trunk of a cab? I saw it mentioned in the DIY, but since the cab has a push button open when the ignition is on, can that be used? Can it be wired to work with ignition off without causing problems?

BTW, in GA you could probably get an extra 20 bucks for the bulldog logo....
