Keeping that sweet sound.
#1

I have been wanting to make a few slight changes to liven up my 968 nothing wild just some shedding weight dropping the dual mass flywheel when the clutch needs replacement and maybe putting in an RS Barn chip. Ive read that these chips were designed to work with a modified airbox or exhaust and thats why they are the best. My question is that I would really like to pop in the stage 2 with the modified intake and exhaust but I really like the stock exhaust sound. I love the way its zingy and growly and determined sounding but not too loud and attention grabbing. Ive heard the modified exhausts and they sound good its just not my taste. Of course I would love to lose the 30 pounds and gain the torque and horsepower but I would like the sound to stay as OE as possible. Anyone have any ideas or solutions for this? Id really love to hear what you guys have to say.

I have the RS barn exhaust on my coupe with the level 1 chip. It is not obnoxiously loud. In fact I tested it with a decible sound meter from 12 inches away @ 87 DB and at 50 feet it was about 55 at 3000 rpm. it has a very nicedeep growl like sound.

i would highly recommend doing some extensive reading here first. this is a question that has been asked and discussed ad nauseum. there is no way to adequately show what something sounds like on the internet. the microphone, placement of it, recording medium, frequency limitations, and then your playback system all have way too many variables to give you any sort of accurate comparison. as an example, the recording that is out there, is not even close to what they sounded like in person. i was there.

there is no perfect answer, and the subjective nature of the tone and performance compromises are just too convoluted to give you any "here it is" kind of answer.

after doing some reading, i highly recommend seeking out your local members and listening to their cars, and talking to them first hand about their experiences.
