That brings up an idea for a new post in the "you need to know this forum" A list of dismantlers.

I wonder why they would part it??? Doesn't look that bad. I need the VIN for my database.

From my experience (very little) with Oklahoma foreign you should call them for a price quote. I have emailed via the site link and never received a response. I understand they aren't the cheapest but deal in very clean parts.

Oklahoma foreign is one of the most well respected Porsche dimantlers in the country.

My guess would be timing belt catastrophy. Might be a great deal for someone with mechanic skills to redo a head for cheap.

Many years ago I had a dream to build a SWB cab out of an early 911 Targa and I spoke to the folks at OK-F on numerous occasions. They had a pretty constant supply of PERFECT bodies with blown motors to choose from, for really good prices. The financial reality is you really have to have the love to dump $10k into an engine for a car worth $15K. Most non-mechanical (or maybe sane? ) Porsche owners just throw in the towel.

I called them because, for reasons unknown, the rocker panel section on the bottom of my front passenger fender decided it wanted to live elsewhere. Turns out they'd already sold those parts, so I'm still searching.

I called about this car today to get the official story. (Also, I have had fleeting thoughts of attempting to rescue it from the graveyard, although I really don't need a 5th Porsche... as I already have my hands full. Well, of course, I suppose I didn't need a 4th, actually, but my heart couldn't tell the 968 no... )

Anyway, the guy told me that it was a Theft/Recovery car... and that they had already sold off many core parts of the body. Man! If only I could have called two months before and rescued this machine. Bottom line, we have lost another 968 from the fold, and this one was totally unnecessay. Losing 968s to wrecks is one thing (and unfortunate), but parting out a perfectly fine 968 really agitates me.

I guess the alternative perspective is - think about how many other 968s have benefited from the transplanted parts. I had tried, but ended up getting the part I need from German Auto Dismantlers. Saved me a bundle, I'm pleased to note.

That's good to hear!

However, in a perfect world, we would all benefit from intact used parts from wrecks, not from cars that were taken off the road because of such reasons as Theft/Recovery.

I'm hoping that the experience with Oklahoma Foreign is what I will experience. In response to a phone call, they were very prompt, had the parts (black) I wanted, we negotiated price (a little), and I'm expecting the shipment this week. I'll post the results.
