No kidding, what else didn't they do?

^^ This seems to be true. I have been itilizing the '3' start lately and for the most, it feels livelier because it always starts in '1', though then you still end up shifting to 'D' anyways so I may just use the tip mode and run the gears manually.......kinda/sorta feels like I still have a sports car that way lol!

The indicator stalk is still on the left hand side, and the windscreen wiper stalk is on the right. That's quite a common thing with European cars though.

The rear wiper is also attached at the left hand side of the hatch.

The front wipers sweep correctly for RHD, but it wasn't always so. My 1984 944 had wipers that swept to the left.

I don't dislike the mixed color tail lights but I think the more common all red lights are really, really cool. No way I'd change.

As for the tip, I can't remember where but I read an article on racing a tip vs. a manual six-speed tranny. The author went to great pains to describe the proper technique and stated that he preferred the tip. He claimed to be faster around the track with it. Go figure.

If you want to trade for all red tail lights , let me know I am interested..
I'm with smokimon968, I like the ROW tail lights. My mighnight blue could use a bit of colour on the back end. If you ever want to trade for red I'm only a few 100 Kms away on the island! Smokiemon698 gets first dibs of course.

Well, my son is in Nanaimo. I could send one down and you could pick it up if your ever over there and try it. My car is off the road for the winter so I don't need the tail lights <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Actually, I have never been to Nanaimo so it's unlikely that would happen, but if you were ever planning a trip to Van., I'd def. meet up with you to try the swap!

Japanese Domestic Market I believe, but could be wrong.

^^^ You could be - but you're not! That is correct and happily, mine is a LHD example as many are not. Basically, the differences are minor - rear foglights, no front or rear bumperettes and taillights with the white reverse lens. I believe they may have another 4 /5 hp, but I'm not positive (something about our exhaust being a tad more restrictive?)

Oh, and all my PO history records are *(&^$#$)_ in Japanese! ;^P

Only one rear fog lights should light up. You arnt supposed to have 2. In the U.S. we drive on the right side of the road. The Rear Foglight that works is supposed to be the left side. This way when you are driving in heavy fog (you should be in the right lane going below speed limit) you turn your fog light on and people from a distance know which side they can pass on (your left in the open lane). since you are in japan and things are reversed there, then your Right tailight should have a Foglight and not the left.

^^ Very informative! Interesting.......I actually bought slightly dimmer bulbs and now utilize both foglight housing recepticles as additional taillights - I now have a full 'row' of lights when the parking or headlights are on. Looks kinda bitchin...imho!

Well, I could take some pics but it's pretty striaghtforward. There are 2 standard sockets for the fog (innermost-bottom) light(s) - as notated above, there was only 1 actual light bulb in the socket (very bright for fog purposes).....I simply replaced that light, and the drivers' side socket with the standard taillight bulbs and now I have 3 seperate lower lights per side creating a full lower light assembly illumination as opposed to the 2 outermost bulbs and the centre one being 'blank'.......I guess like this -

*** __ *** compared to this (stock) **-__-**

lol that makes little sense but hopefully you get it!

<!--quoteo(post=61854:date=Oct 18 2008, 11:33 PM:name=todzilla)-->QUOTE (todzilla @ Oct 18 2008, 11:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->After having 4 previous 944s (including one turbo) - I finally found myself a nice little Japanese honey! This is a '92 tiptronic (not my first choice, but......) from overseas. It was imported into Canada in 2002 and i as far as I know (from previous records) is an accident free creampuff/cruiser!

I really preferred to find a 6 speed, but after having spent over $3000 for a full clutch job on my '86 951, I thought that the tip may be a nice alternative. I figure that tips are likely to be less 'pushed' or tracked and generally purchased by enthusiasts wanting the prestige of the nameplate, but would rather pose than race! Plus, the car sat with 89000 km (about 55000 miles) so I really couldn't pass it up.

Upon a ppi, the car turned up very well - as I'd expected for the most part. She needs caster blocks/bushings (control arm bushings?) a reference sensor......and that's it! The PO just did the timing belt job and installed an Autothority chip, euro clear corners and PIAA orange bulbs and gave it a mild tune (plugs and air filter.......I will likely do the cap and rotor and change the fuel filter)

The scary part of my first 2 weeks with it were the damper (in the flywheel) going literally 2 days after purchase, which resulted in a $2500 repair bill! The ppi showed nothing, but after 2 days of driving, it started to make a rattly/metallic sound at idle, that went away as revs rose. After diagnosing everything else, turns out it was totally worn away and toast! Caveat emptor, so they say! She runs flawlessly now, though I also had to tinker with the aftermarket exhaust. The PO in Japan installed a very nice, full 3" exhaust and eliminated the mid muffler and replaced the cat with a hi flow. It was LOUD! I thought I could just replace the muffler to quell it, so I put on a Flowmaster 60 series (3 chamber - the quietest they offer) This helped a fair bit, but there was still an annoying rasp as soon as the car got to 2800-3200 rpm..........so I then added a big resonator where the midpipe would have been. It's not perfect, but about as good as I'll get with what is left! I have no idea why anyone would've wanted borderline obnoxious loud and a loss of bottom end torque.........IN A TIPTRONIC!??? lol

So, enough chit chat. Future mods to come are-
-airbox mod
-17" turbo twists (m a y b e 18")
-mild (50%) 5 window tint

Nothing to intense....but I'm sure I'll think of things to do as time goes on

Enjoy!
(I didn't know how to post pics without a link leading to them? Sorry)

Paint looks great, intr clean, even the batwing looks new from the pics. Another example of how some of the best 68s are overseas.

Bump for the nice pics and thanks for the fog light info. I looked at mine and there are no light sockets for the rear fogs.
Seems like a good mod for our cars. Any know how to source the sockets? wiring seems easy enough.
