Oh, You Little Bastards. It's GAME ON!

So much for my original white gloves, and half of the insulation in my garage, apparently. I'm off to the hardware store to pick up the new grill and buy every bit of D-Con the've got.

I had a check engine light on our 03 X5, which was caused by a problem with the secondary air pump, and sure enough, the vacuum hose going into the pump's check valve had a sizable crack. Bingo! So then I followed the hose to its other end which was near a solenoid, the wires into which were completely chewed through! The funny thing is, someone else on the X5 forum had exactly the same code, caused by exactly the same wires falling victim to rodents!

Wow, I would have have never thought about this peril relative to cars in spite of the fact that throughout the years those little bastards chewed just about everything else in our garage. I have all of those d-con pellets in multiple places, as well as various other so-called deterrents, as well as traps, etc.. I got rid of a few of them but others seem replace them, and it's a never ending problem.

Everyone swears by cats being the ONLY solution. So going out to buy a cat and I'm keeping it in the white glove engine over compartment 24/7. :-) ..after I line up the box with catnip.

( and for those of you thinking " wait, but you have a 94 so no white glove box for you ! " ..I bought the engine cover separately )

New pair on the way. Pelican and AutoAtlanta have them for about $6.75, but Pelican has $3.50 shipping, and AutoAtlanta has $13.00 shipping.

Interestingly, there's a pair of Porsche plastic gloves (like the ones in the trunk) on eBay for $75, or $99 if you Buy-It-Now.

Part number for the white cotton gloves is 944.722.131.00, and there's already one of these in the bin where they go to avoid future visits.

Maybe a solution would be to drive the car a lot. Then you'll have toasted mice but they won't chewing the wires.

This happened sometime overnight, as I've been driving the car quite a lot this year. I should pass 50K miles sometime this week (total, not just this year).

Looking at the chewed insulation photo all I can say is that i hope your mice are not watching all of the lawyer ads on tv soliciting lawsuits for asbestos related problems or you're in trouble...better kill them before they get representation :-)

LOL oh so true, caught that yawn while testing shutter speeds on the Nikon.

My cats 14 years old and sleeps about 18hours a day. Im guessing if he ever caught sight of a mouse, All the mouse would have to do is dart around for about 30 seconds and Ol herc would qucilky come to the conclusion that he would rather be napping.

In some societies, china, rats feed the population. Are you sure it's not mice? Have you ever heard of going on a quarterly visit with an exterminator, not Arnold, ? Up here in the woods, either pure foolishness or frustration not to. Money well spent.

I'm pretty sure it's mice... They got through the little finger hole that opens the hatch, but then chewed on it a bunch from the inside trying to make it bigger.
