Never fear - the Stable Genius has a brilliant new idea for ending the war in Ukraine.  He says we should paint our war planes to look like they're from the Chinese, and use them to engage Russian fighters, drawing Russia and China into a war where they annihilate each other, leaving the US as the sole superpower again.  Sheer genius.  I'm sure the Russians would never figure out it's all a ruse, and what a wonderful thing it would be for two heavily nuclear armed countries to get into an all-out war against each other.  Break out the popcorn!  And I thought drinking bleach to fight off Covid was the most inspired idea I'd ever hear!

Brilliant plan !  Also, let’s send a few stealth bombers to hit the Kremlin dead center, and make sure we leave a few “clues”  around there : scattered chop sticks and some broken fortune cookies near the ruins.. Putin is so paranoid right now, he’ll fall for just about any conspiracy theory ..  “ Yes, Vlad, your new buddy, the not-so-honorable  chairman Xi played you ; took advantage of you being distracted with the Ukraine thing and bombed your crib”   Maybe we can also tell him that it was a bad Chinese  driver in a van or bus packed with explosives looking to take revenge on the red square’s  Panda Express restaurant which cut into his takeout business, and he simply took a wrong turn ..?    Hmm, that may not be politically correct ( bad Chinese driver .). is it ?

Your location certainly gives you a unique perspective on things.  We hear a lot in the press in the U.S. about how utterly inept the Russian military is, and how low the morale of their troops is, including rumors of commanders being killed by their own troops rather than following orders to continue fighting.  Do you feel like this is true, or is it an exaggerated assessment of the situation?  I wonder if there's a chance that given all the losses the Russian troops in Ukraine have taken, that they could become "sitting ducks" and get trapped in Ukraine, and possibly completely wiped out.

More than wipeout, i expect retreat to belarus which is already happening now from certain positions.

Oncoming spring with the rain, together with Ukrainian mud which stopped  nazis,   play a good role of their inability to progress with heavy vehicles/tanks.

Their morale is exceptionaly low,. they dont know what they are fighting for, and they dont know how to.

We remember that from when they fought here  with nazis, and red army robbed, r@ped  more than nazis. We also know them when they invaded us in 1968, when most of the soldiers were told they are going to fight  somebody here, and when they came here from their 18th century land  and saw our people being living peacefully and all ok, they didnt understand.

But the propaganda is working so well, that even many people who remember invasion in 68 are now  on their side  and completely brainwashed. They invested many years and a lot of money here to finance far right parties and other parties whose voters   are not being known to be very intelligent. Facebook algorhitms and 60+ age, poor education thanks to social democrat parties at power, zero english + life that didnt go as they wanted created an army of people scaring me.

53 percent of our citizens are likely to believe conspiracy theories which is the most in EU. Russia is sadly, winning  on this front, losing in real war in Ukraine.

@ netopyer. :  oh boy, your post sure hit close to home :  my wife was born and raised in the now Czech Republic and although she was only 13 at the time of the invasion she lived there until 1977, so she was exposed to the post-occupation propaganda for a good number of years, as was her family, which as older adults were much more affected by the altered psyche of a nation.

And I was born and raised in Romania, which although no way near as directly influenced by the Soviet Union,  they were nonetheless considered to be our “best friends”  and a model to follow for a successful society.  

Not too dissimilar of a bull s**t propaganda to which me and my family was exposed.  

But fortunately for both of us, our respective immediate families were highly educated, so no one bought into the hype and fell for the brainwashing effect, so at home behind closed doors the dissent and the intense dislike of Russians, and the propaganda was ever present.   Yet, so many of our and our families’ older friends and acquaintances , even decades on top of decades later still never let go of their genuine  belief that Russia’s intrusion into the Eastern Bloc countries’ lives was righteous, and they had our best interests in mind .. 

In spite of current day access to the international social media ( which has been significantly curtailed ) Russians are still bombarded by so much propaganda that especially for the uneducated and the elderly population being brainwashed should not be the least surprising . 


Ironically, I’ve seen almost the same degree of brainwashing in this country as of late , with a “cult of personality” engulfing and polarizing the population, so seeing somewhat of a parallel to what the Eastern Bloc has experienced for several generations, is very disturbing , to say the least ..

Maybe I'm very naive with what I'm about to say, but what is stopping a group of democratic countries opposed to Putin's invasion of Ukraine from amassing a fleet cruise missiles, drones, and military aircraft, and, strictly within the confines of Ukraine, taking out every last Russian tank and military transport vehicle?  What could Putin do?  Launch nukes on 30 different countries?  That would be suicidal, and, judging by the ginormous table he sits at when meeting with a foreign leader, he's so deathly afraid of catching Covid, a disease with a >90% survival rate, that he can be described as the polar opposite of suicidal.
