How many car models have you owned over the years?
#1

Kind of fun to think about it now that most of us are entering the mature state of life. I took my license in 1967 at the age of 18 in a Volvo Amazon. My very first car was a 3 speed Vauxhall Victor. from there I went to the following:

1966 VW beetle

1978 Mazda 323 (in the us called GLC)

1973 Chevrolet Concours SW ( First car in the US. A big $500 investment)

1985  2x Mazda GLC/s

1990 Honda Accord

1993 Honda Accord SW

1985 Mazda RX7 ( my first venture into cheap sports cars)

1973 Datsun 240Z

1984 Porsche 944 (this one got me hooked)

1980 Porsche 928

2001 Infiniti G35

2003 Nissan 350Z

2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe Sport

2012 Infiniti sedan

....... and now finally the pride and joy 1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet.

This covers 1967-2019

i started with bikes first so lets go there

and the first job i had out of school was building new bikes out the crates for a dealship, so i rode just about every machine from 1977 to 1981 brand new

then moved on to cars

Vauxhall Viva HA van 1972

Ford Capri 2.0 GTXL V4 1974

Ford Capri 1.6 stage tuned 1976

Surprisingly few :

66 Sunbeam Tiger ( gray market car )

71 Fiat 124 coupe

74 Maserati Merak

70 ‘cuda 440

73 Oldsmobile 98

78 Cadillac Seville ( company car )

79 Buick Regal

73 Mercedes 450 SL

80 Mercedes 300 SD

84 944

86 944

94 968 ( manual )

94 968 ( tip )

14 Jeep Grand Cherokee

13 Maserati GranTurismo Sport

side notes   1) .  age could have something to do with the number of cars listed by any given member  ( not necessarily , but most likely )     2 )   had I kept my 70 'cuda, , if fully restored, today it would sell for more money than I paid for any 10 combined, out of the 15 cars listed  ..  kicking myself..  at the Monterey  car week one was listed for $ 400,000 , and the version with a 426 Hemi   ( not the one I owned )  was estimated to exceed

$ 1 mil. at auction.

Mmmmm, my list is fairly long as a) I'm a tad long in the tooth, and B) I have worked all over the world for 40 years, let's see.....

  1. Ford Cortina mk1 ... my thanks to my mother for buying my first car!
  2. MG midget (1962 I think)
  3. ROLLS ROYCE silver shadow!! .... I "owned" this for about two minutes. I'd just been to the theatre with my mother and was collecting my midget from Piccadilly car park. Imagine my surprise when a burgundy coloured RR slid to a halt in front of me and the valet opened the door driver's for me. When I pointed out that mine was a midget he suggested I could find it myself on the next floor up. I realised the mix up was because I was wearing a burgundy coloured suit ..... well it was 1970   Rock
  4. Ford Capri 1600GT
  5. Rover 2000
  6. Datsun Cherry .... squashed by a bus!
  7. Rover 2000tc
  8. Triumph 2000tc
  9. Morris Marina1600
  10. Volvo 244
  11. Vauxhall 1600
  12. Holden ???
  13. Mitsu 3L
  14. Ford Cortina (forget the model)
  15. Mitsubishi? boring
  16. Nissan ? boring
  17. Alpha Sud sport
  18. Merc 2.6 saloon
  19. MGB GT 1966 chrome bumpers, sun roof
  20. Mitsubishi 4x4
  21. Range Rover vogue
  22. Morris 8, 1936 .... Very sad to sell this wonderfully solid and honest car, flat out at about 40mph!!
  23. Jeep Wrangler .... great, go anywhere car!
  24. Porsche 944S2 cab .... Eureka moment, no turning back ... I've had Porsches ever since.
  25. Hiundai 4x4 (not serious 4x4, but enough to get you to a picnic)
  26. Renault Megan Sport .... surprisingly reliable car. Spent 11 months of each year under the house, only to be dragged out for holidays
  27. Jeep Cherokee .... great off-road.
  28. Boxster 986
  29. 968 cab
  30. Kia Soul
I'm desperately trying to ditch the Kia and get another Wrangler, that and the 968 will probably see me out!

Well, let's see there weren't that many:

1962 Corvair Monza Spyder (The Spyder was equipped with a supercharger and not as ill handling as some would have you believe with decent tires and suspension set up. Gave away nothing to the contemporary Porsche 356's)

1969 Chevy Z-28 Camero (Sold when I deployed the first time)

1957 Porsche Speedster (Sold when I deployed the second time. I brought this car back from the dead, installed the 4 cam motor, transmission and suspension from a wrecked 356 Carrera GT

)

1971 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe ( Modified with a European intake manifold and a pair of twin webers)

1978 Toyota Celica GT (What a POS, mechanically done at 90K miles)

1987 Audi 4000CS Quattro

1984 Porsche 944 (Equipped with Sport suspension)

1993 Audi A6 Quattro Avant (uprated the suspension and  tires, cross drilled brake rotors and disabled the speed governor, Panzer Zug V1)

1994 Porsche 968, currently own, retired from daily driver status

2000 Audi A6 Quattro Avant (uprated the suspension and  tires, cross drilled brake rotors and disabled the speed governor, Panzer Zug V2)

2008 Audi A5 3.2 V6, currently own

2015 Audi Allroad, currently own

I thought the Fiat 124 Sport Coupe was a great car. Where else could you find a nicely balanced car, 4 well disc brakes, beautiful Italian coachwork and a Lampredi designed twin cam engine. I drove mine into the ground.

Hi It was, well not quite my first job but close only about 6 months from leaving school at 16,

Working for a Main Dealer, Eddy Grimstead

we sold Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Gilera, and a large array of kids monkey bikes, (which we used to ride round the showroom racing when the boss was out), and the odd BMW.

My job was to unpack the bikes, put them together, change the oil, PDI, fit number plates, and then take them out for a MAX 5 mile ride, but sometimes I forgot about the five mile rule

Honda CBX was one of my favs, along with the GS1000EN, Yamaha DOHC 750 Shaft drive.

these bikes are now collectors items worth loads,

Suzuki GS1000EN was about £1900 in 1980, (4 dollars to the pound back then) and was building 2-3 a day, now they are worth from about £5000-9000 if you can find a good one

in about 1983 I moved to cars, worked for Mazda, Ford, Jaguar, and the cars that I have driven I have lost count, Raced a Vauxhall Firenza 2.0 in club series in 1987-8, and said Hi to a wall at Snetterton at about 75MPH in the rain, destroyed the car and at the time could not rebuild it, so that was the end of racing,

not driver error, I was tagged on the rear corner on one one of the 80MPH bends, wet grass the rest is history.

I just remembered I had a Ferrari 308 GTB for about 2 months, horrid thing, crap gearbox and a friendly silverback gorilla to push the clutch down,

But it did turn a few heads

Good one, thanks.  I had bikes as a youth and then cars, until I rode around Sicily on a rental with my present wife in my early 50s; really enjoyed it!!  Now cabrios achieve the same connection with the environment as did bikes..... I love the smells and the changes of temperature, as well as driving under trees and through the countryside in Autumn; it's just not the same in a saloon. Cheers, have a good one.

Well lets see,

I started with these in High School

-68 Dodge Coronet 2 door

-69 Dodge Charger RT/SE

During College I added

-79 Toyota pickup

After college

-89 Mustang GT

After getting married, the family cars have been

-83 Honda Accord

-81 Toyota pickup

-93 Honda Civic

-95 Ford SHO

-83 Porsche 944

-89 BMW 535

-83 Mercedes 380 SL

-94 Chevy Silverado

-97 Honda Accord

-84 Porsche 944

-87 BMW 635 (L6)

-90 Porsche 944S2 cab

-04 Honda Accord

-06 Porsche Cayman S

-07 Chevy Silverado

-09 Acura MDX

-01 Porsche 996 cab

-09 Porsche Boxster

-95 Porsche 968 cab

-95 Porsche 993 coupe

In roughly that order, owning 3-5 of them at any one time.

For the last 35 years I have always owned a pickup, at least one sports/fun car, and after marriage also a sedan or SUV.

Its been a good recipe for our lifestyle and our sometimes snowy Northwest US location.

Wow, my list won't be as exciting as some here, but here goes :

Learned to drive at 15 and had parents cars that I "drove part time" while in high schoool :

'82 Oldsmobile Toronado

'83 Honda Civic Wagon (5 speed, learned to drive a manual on this one)

Got "my first car" (in ~92) and progressed from there

1989 Ford Taurus SHO

1995 Ford Taurus SHO

2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan, 6 speed (my first "new" car)

2010 Ford Taurus SHO

2014 Ford Taurus SHO (2nd "new purchase" car, and only because I found a great deal on it)

2016 Porsche Cayenne S

....and most recently, my 1992 Porsche 968.  ;-)

My wife has had a couple of Acura MDXs, and a couple of Ford F150s over the years as well and I drive those frequently.

As you might be able to deduce from the list above, I've always been a fan of "high powered sports sedans", and I tend to keep most of my vehicles a pretty long time, but am pretty happy with my current 2x Porsche garage!
