Hi all!
#1

Just wanted to say hi, my names Jason. I had an 87 944 when I was younger and always loved the car. I just bought a 94 968 cab in Florida and drove it back to Los Angeles, California where I live.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I still need to download all the pictures from the trip, but here's two from before. She ran great the whole way across! Couldn't have asked for a better way to get acquainted with a new car.

Anyway, nice to meet you all. I'll definitely check out the event section too.

Beautiful Cab. Was the chrome wheel a US option?

No it wasn't. Painted wheels were an option.

Yes, a nice car. I like the classic gray interior.

i've seen a couple of cars with them now - at least one was ordered like that by the buyer - you could order just about anything from the dealer, and only so much shows up on the factory paperwork - you could get the dealer to do almost anything prior to you taking delivery - it just wouldn't show up on the stickers

it was likely a dealer installed item, like many things were, that were not on the option stickers, and did not show up on the window sticker - would likely have been billed as option 9118 on the dealer's paperwork

a lot of weird stuff goes on before the buyer gets the car - some that they requested - some not

i know of one late 94 car locally that was ordered with 17" C2 Turbo wheels, but got replicas instead - the dealer delivered it personally too

mine was repainted quite a bit prior to the dealer selling it

none of this is on the paperwork - happens all the time

Same would be true of the dealer-installed 9118 968 submarine option.

I'll stick with factory data. God knows what the dealers did.

9118 was actually the code for chrome wheels on some porsches

lol - not sure what the submarine code was - that information seems to have been lost to neptune

as i said though, dealers did all sorts of stuff - you have to go back to the sales paperwork to see what it was - the factory info is a decent starting point though, just not always the whole story

the good news is that you can usually win arguments with the pca nazis if you have the sales paperwork showing that your car "came" with something on it

Thank you! Yeah like flash said, dealers would do almost anything. From what I was told, the car was bought new from the dealer with the chrome wheels.

Hah love the submarine option, I imagine not many of those around.
