HERSHEY 2012
#41

Given the rainy prediction, it was tempting to just stay home...but then I realized it's not about the rain or sunshine or inconvenience, it's about seeing our great 968 compadres!!!! Rain or shine, doesn't matter. Plus if Flash can get on the plane to come to hang with us, it will be great to see him.

I will be travelling light this year...too hard to do a tailgate party in the rain. But maybe by having all of us show up, we can ward off precipitation!!!

I'll be arriving at the Hilton Garden sometime this evening, probably arriving around 8:00 or later.

Hope to see a good turnout of our 968 group this weekend!

Well, looks like I'm not going to make it to Hershey this weekend after all. Have some work commitments that are taking precedence. Hope the weather cooperates and our loyal 968 group has a great time. Sorry I won't be there this time. Next year!!!

i was all set to go. first class seat booked well in advance. everything wsa going extremely well, and i got all of my projects handled with time to spare. got up early and got to the airport on time. blew threw check in. boarded straight away a full 45 minutes before take-off. i actually got on the plane, called jay to confirm that i was coming and everything. we pushed back and headed for the runway, got into place, and ruh roh! why are we headed back to the gate? i was joking with the passenger next to me that the pilot was hungover and was going to bail.

turns out, the plane wouldn't start. fuel valve wouldn't open. after a few minutes, they deplaned us, as i knew they would, as that repair takes at least 2 hours, and that's beyond regs for letting us stay on the plane.

my connections were short, and there was no other convenient flight, so i went home.

sorry guys. i really was going to come.

They should have logged onto 747forums.com and maybe they could have fixed it on the tarmac.

lol - it was an older 757. very odd thing to happen. first flight of the day, but apparently they don't start the car first before loading it up with the wife and kids for a road trip.

figures. i was looking forward to this, and didn't for a minute consider an issue with the plane. i considered everything else, and was really worried that everything was going so smoothly. it was just too good to be true.

You guys missed a fantastic event but no matter how great an event it was, a mechanical issue on the plane isn't worth it. Weather was fantastic. Never saw a drop of rain and the sun was out for the entire day. We had 25 968s in the swap that I counted so a decent showing. I will post an event review shortly.

Weather was beautiful, about 10 of us met for the Cruise Night at the hotel. Jeff went to dinner with his wife and daughter, Cosimo, Aaron, Minta and I went to Houlihans for dinner and drinks. Upon return, there were a lot of familiar faces at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Swap Meet had fantastic weather and we had a new record of cars parked in the Concours Area - 82, including 2 GTs (both silver). Everyone had lots of fun, picked up rare parts or won some awards. There were 13 968s in the Concours (thanks guys and gals) and lst and 2nd Awards went to 968s, 3rd place went to a beautiful 928. Based on the challenge by Rap about my "Lime Concours Charlie", I borrowed a lime tee shirt from my daughter (she still does not know) and wore it to the Cruise Night. I firmly believe this why we had so many 968s in the Concours, including some who parked there simply to be with the other 968s. As promised, my garage queen was "Display Only"

No rain, lots of 968 friends, beautiful Porsches and rare parts - what more could you want? Here come the Photos:

Jeff 25 man that's a lot. Don perhaps we can persuade you to purchase a lime green polo or running shirt so there will be that many 968's next year. You forgot to congratulate Jeff on his first place trophy!

Another Hershey under my belt. As was said before the weather held up and it was sunny and hot all day. It didn't rain till about 5. There wasn't a lot of 968 stuff as usual. Don did his usual surreptious route to the restaurant Friday night thru parking lots and U-turns. It always an adventure. I bought a Porsche model, a 906 and a t-shirt for the grandson. Some really great cars in the concours area, 2 Carrera GTs, very impressive. I had my car there but didn't expect to win anything, as the car has too many little flaws and I was next to Jeff for an unlikely comparison. Learned something about how to fix my power seats. Aaron thought it was probably just a worn switch, Easy fix. Some pics.

Glad that the weather held out for you. I spent the day doing "honey do" stuff, and the rain didn't break out at home until after 9 PM.

Well, this weekend saw another PCA swap in Hershey and we had a great time. The weather turned out to be great on both days. We left in good fashion on Friday morning and made it to Hershey around 3pm. While cleaned up the car I was soon joined at the Hilton car wash by Paige and Emma with their white 968 cab. After a quick dinner it was back to the Hilton for our 968 cruise night. We had a good group of 968ers along with a few fans as we spent the beautiful night admiring the cars and talking about our experiences with them. Multiple event attendees were there including Don, Cosimo, Aaron, and Minta. New 968ers Ron and Constance showed up with their new machine all the way from Ohio. Their 968 is quite unique and I’ll feature it in the next register newsletter. All together we had 11 968s attend the cruise. Saturday morning greeted us with some partly cloudy skies so we knew we had a nice day in store for us. We got to the swap and parked with the usual gang of 928s and 944s. We had a good group of 968s. I counted 25 in total by the end of the day. I talked with a lot of old friends and met a few new ones. Frank and his son brought their beautiful 968 black CS replica. The car was beautifully done without a detailed missed. The swap was well attended with the usual vendors bringing their many treasures. Ron made out well with the purchase of a like new set of 968 shop manuals for only $150. The sun made a full showing and the Porsches continued to pile into the event. I’m sure they had over 1,000 in attendance. There were 2 Carrera GTs parked a few spots over from the 968s. As the afternoon wore on the cars started to leave. We said good bye and made our way home. It was a great event and a fun time.

Sorry I missed the event. It looked like a great time with alot of nice cars. I worked in the vineyard upstate NY all weekend in the rain pounding posts since the guy I hired bailed out on me ! I had to get it done. Bob, That is scary about the flight. I would have packed it in after that just for superstition sake......

Hey Rap,

Thought you might enjoy another photo of "Charlie Concours" in his lime outfit (wife told daughter I borrowed her lime shirt so I am busted - lol).

Hey, I did congratulate Jeff on his Peoples Choice, I presented it to him (and all the other winners) since I am the Concours Co Chairman - assume you had left before the Award Ceremony was held at 1:15 pm. Be nice to me next year and we will see what I can do for you - lol!

Don , I meant here on the Forum. I was there watching you carefully coordinating the awards ceremony. Masterful job enjoyed by all. Except of course for those of us who walked away empty handed! Where you charging for these photo ops? Perhaps by the size of the group. Five kids wow. Whoops what am I saying seeing as I have five plus 4 grand kids. It's great to see little kids at this event. But they aren't crazy about riding in the back of the 968s for 3 hours <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
