Front Tire (tyre) size for 17" rims
#1

Hi, I just noticed that my front tyres are due for replacment soon. I also note that some people run 225/45/17 (as the good Dr P prescribed) and others run 235/40/17 on the front rim (7.5" x 17").Is anyone able to share their views on any implications of the difference. ABS impact? other issues?

Also, does anyone run a mixed use street tyre such as the Azenis and have any feeback?

Regards and thanks

Mark

Porsche equipped the 968 Turbo S with 235 width tires on 18" wheels.

I also run 235s on my Genuine Porsche 18" and 17" wheels (with 255s on the rear).

Having experience with 225 width fronts, I prefer the "feel" of the 235s.

That said, I only buy/run Porsche Approved "N" rated tires (Pirellis being my fav).

my 2 cents,

Porsche

sort of a preference - which tire chosen also plays in to this - speaking in generalizations, the lower profile but wider tire will flex a bit more when pushed, but give overall better grip on the street - it will tend to ride a bit firmer as well

however, a soft sidewall versus a stiff one, in the same size, will have nearly the same relative comparative effect

so, if you choose a stiff sidewall 235, you can mitigate some of the flex, but at the expense of some comfort - a soft sidewall 235 will present more flex, but give back some of the comfort
