Heated Sport seats
#1

Does the back and bottom heat up and roughly how warm does it get? Still pretty warm in Ms and just wondering.

Not sure about back and bottom both lighting up. I know that if I turn mine on it's too hot for me at any time of the year so I don't use them. I must have a warm ass?

I could never understand why they just have off/on when it needs an adjustable setting. I have heat in the 944S and just keep it on for a short time or I roast. Oh and it's bottom only on mine.

Ryan,

I have a temperature adjustment pot on my heated seats in the cab. There is a little wheel identical to your instrument cluster dimmer integrated into the on/off switch. As for how hot does it get...I usually have to turn it down or completely off after a little while. They work very well and yes, I do believe there are two elements...one in the bottom and one in the lower back. I absolutely love having heated seats with the top down!

Now, not trying to hijack this thread, but the title is "Heated Sport Seats", so.......I've heard the wiring harness for all cars is the same. Does anyone know if that's true and if so, then that means you could add heater elements to any seat. Has anyone added seat heaters? That's something I'd really like to do in the coupe! I did find a Porsche upholstery place online to buy them but wondered about the necessary wiring. Got my eye out for some power, heated seats...hint, hint. Dave, I'll trade you seats since you never use them!

Thanks for the answers. Mine has the thumb wheel also. I did not run them long and was not sure the top and bottom were heating but I thought they were. To hot here to use right now maybe in Jan-Feb we'll get a cold shap. Dewane

According to my diagrams, both bottom and back have heating elements. My cab also has the switch and adjustment wheels on the side of the seats.

Has anyone had to replace a heating element? Is it a DIY job?

It's a pita, but can be done.
You'll need new hog rings and hog ring pliers to temove the seat covers.
The rest is pretty straight forward.

Now that I am able to drive the car and it's been chilly. The seat heaters work great top and bottom. My passenger said their seat was just right.

Reading this thread prompts me to throw out a few questions...

Can regular seats like the ones in my '92 coupe, non-sport and not heated, be converted to heated?

I know that with some manufacturers and components, it's cheaper to make everything the same at the onset and just added the needed switches and hookups at the factory when a customer requests that option. (Could I be so lucky to have hidden heating elements, hiding under my regular seats?)

If so, what besides the obvious pliers and stuff Pat mentioned is needed to do the job?

I would love to climb in after a round of golf and get some back soothing heat....

Thanks for responses.

I have a nice quality generic seat heater kit I bought for my
968 but never installed. It is complete with heating elements, wiring,
switch, relay, and directions. I also bought a set hogring pliers and new
hogrings.
I'd let it go for $60 shipped.

Just bought two of these for the 4runner
http://www.heatedseatkits.com/heatedseatki...rat2/index.html
Got them on ebay much cheaper especially after the wife used a 10 % coupon and got 15 or 20% cash back from Bing.
Just arrived yesterday but have not put them in yet. If they are work well I'll be putting a set in my 968, not sure about Kim's car.

Adding the heat strips in the seat itself would be no problem. The major problem is if you want to add oem style switches. The steel frame for the bottom is different, the hole the switches mount in is longer.

This would be a good add. Drove in today with the top down. Plenty of heat bustling around the top-down cab, but the hot seats would make it very toasty in there.

If anyone does the retro mod please take pictures for us DIYers out here in ethernet land...

I would absolutely add seat heaters if I wasn't worried about ruining the seat covers upon removal....

+1 on a DIY from someone more willing than I!

Hi!

Has anyone done and maybe there is a DIY? Maybe it would work just to rip out it from some other car and install with all the swithes?

It is often cheaper to buy a few years old seats from than the new kit from ebay and then you know that it works

i did my recaro sportlines, but it's pretty much the same for any seat

the kits are cheap - you can get them for less than $100

remove cover - install heater - reinstall cover - every brand of kit is different, so the specifics of the switch and stuff are therefor different, but removal of the cover is pretty standard - if you have never taken a seat apart before, don't try it unless you are willing to have it recovered - one slip and you gash the leather

also, do NOT do this on worn or old tired seats - the leather is too unforgiving, and will tear easily

Thanks for the explanation!

Well, that is a hard decision I would like to get them recovered but I haven't found any place here that does it for reasonable price.. I have found a company here in Sweden that says they use original Porsche leather for "pull-over" type of covers but they are not possible for the new type of seats as I have (993 type).

If you have any pics of how it looks maybe it will just scare me away from doing it

i didn't take any pics of my project, as they were aftermarket seats, and probably wouldn't really have helped anybody - sorry

pull over covers probably won't work, as the heater is glued to the foam cushion

you're in a tough spot - not having access to the kind of vendor is tough - recovering seats is about $500 each here in the states - installing heaters at that time would be essentially free

i'd save up and get it all done at once
