Recaro seats and OEM Porsche sliders?
#1

My local Recaro dealer had a question regarding standard Porsche sliders. He was relatively sure that Porsches have a 16" slider measurement (I imagine that means side to side, not length), and that Recaro Speed seats would bolt directly to the OEM sliders....meaning no need to buy the Recaro sliders.

That may just go for the 911 series, not sure about 968 cars.

Anyone?

Cheers,

if you have manual seats, it may work - i didn't really look into that, because i had power seats

the other thing to consider is offset - the seats don't sit centered over the rails in our cars

Ah, right. I had wondered about that. My seats are power. With that in mind, I'll talk to him and its likely I'll order the sliders too.

Cheers,

I just purchased a Recaro Pro XL and it required the Recaro brackes and slides for my 944.

Did you get the Recaro "flat" sliders? Did it raise your seat height at all? Also curious if your car had power seats from the factory.

Absolutely, I'll be going nuts with the camera as soon as I get it back from the shop.

968Gene,

Did you gain much helmet-room with the new seat?

You might check with Recaro. The orginal seats are made by Recaro. Just took mine out to put on new leather seat covers. They have Recaro stickers all over them.

new seat covers?

i didn't know you could get anything like that.

did you remove the original leather and install new?

my seats are showing their age, but aren't so bad as to warrant spending thousands on new ones.

if there's an affordable way to re uposlster them..... hmmm.

I saw some seat covers on a 944 this weekend at VIR. The guy told me they were purchased from iggee.com. They are vinyl but look very good and are inexpensive. They can match Porsche colors and get various combinations. Take a look.

there are options for sure - pretty much any decent upholstery shop can re-do them in OEM leather for about 500 each

Ah well, I guess I'll see! Ordered a pair of Recaro Speed S seats with the flat sliders today.

I'm my own guinea pig, I will post my findings in about 4 weeks.

The cage is going in next week. I plan to run w/o the bottom seat pad. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks how it turns out.

My old covers were "partial leather." Leather only on the seating surface. There is only one company that seems to make them, supposedly with the same leather used in all German cars -- GAHH, in Van Nuys, CA. You can buy them directly on the internet. The company that replaced my top, also got that from GAHH, and orders the seat covers from them, too. Also Performance Products and Pelican also sell the same covers from GAHH.

Mine are "light gray." GAHH has a color called raspberry which is quite close, so that is what I am using. They're about $1200-1400, without installation. I am doing it myself, as the installation was going to be about $500. I had to order a special stapler/tacker as they are stapled to the foam on the back of the seat insert. Also hog rings and pliers. It's not difficult, but time consuming, especially the first time around.

Also, I got an extra piece of leather to cover the cassette box cover, so that it matches the seats, instead of the vinyl that was there.

gahh is a well known source indeed - however, they have a high markup

i think world upholstery sells the covers for a bit less

you pay for the convenience of pre-made stuff

if you go to the veteran company, buy the leather, and take it to an upholstery shop, you can save yoruself a bundle - all three upholstery companies here that i have used would do both seats, including material, for a bit over a grand, all in - the downside is that your car is down for a good week, whereas with the premade kits, you can do it in a day

I put some Recaro SPG's into my 968 CS (had the comfort option) and fitted them to the standard OEM sliders (also made by Recaro!) I had to drill in a couple of holes at the front and the back, and put some washers between the seat mount and the seat, but otherwise the sliding mechanism works fine!

The original seats in the CS are manual adjustment, not power. Correct?
