Headlight adjusting screw broken
#1

Hello happy 968ers

I face a strange situation. Trying to pass the french MOT, we discovered that my left headlight was off limits (see attached file).[Image: 20200508_085938%5B1%5D.jpg?dl=0]

See pic here.

Dismantling the plasctic cover, I discovered that the adjusting screw (a very long one) was broken.

Problem: that screw is not for sale, you have to buy the whole headlight. Which means a 450 € joke...

Did any of you solve the problem in a more clever way ?

Thank you for your help and tips !

Chap

I would go for this i guess for, it's got a high shipping price but this was just the first one i found.

There might be better options for you.

Not sure if the option from Roboman will do the job, although it's the cheapest of them all to have a go and see if it works for you.

Thank you Roboman and J. Elenbaas for your quick answers.

Roboman's solution seems to be perfect (and so is the price, so it doesn't cost much even if not efficient). Order passed.

And yes, we were able to arrange something", so I have a perfect CT   but I would be happy with a full funtionning headlamp !

I hope it's okay.  The dimensions don't look 100%, but it says it's compatible so for the price you just suck it and see.... good luck!

My CT ran out in March, but I'm 68 so I'm not sure how to proceed with all this even after Monday, I guess I'll call the CT guy and maybe talk to the local gendarmes.

Roboman

My CT ran out in march too. They said we have a 3 months delay, so it will be ok for you.

I just phoned the guy. I had time and he was ok, so it is now done.

You are right for the dimensions but I guess I can always fixe something. The "screw therad" (? not sure)  is very specific to adjust with the white plastic bit. So, from that, I can arrange it.

Hey Chap, did you manage to sort your headlights out in the end?

Just trying to adjust mine for CT next week (I'm now in the Vendee) but getting the alignment right is a nightmare!

Not me I'm afraid. I'm just now trying to get my Coupe legal for French roads.

Who or wat is is the Albas club? My apologies if this is a stupid question.

Not stupid .... Albas is a village about 40mins north of me (Tuchan) which has a vintage car club. A long way from Vendee, but I spotted shiny black 968 going past the end of my street, and as you know there's not many of us around.

Legal for Fr roads? Is it rhd?

Oh, and for the CT .... my lights have never passed the alignment test. They are too low. But is is a noted adjustment and not a failure in my case. So don't sweat it. If all else is ready just book the CT. Good luckSmile

Been there and it wasn't bad at all.  I imported two Porsches and a Kia on my return from the Middle East.  The Porsches were a breeze, though you may want to get your system flushed with hydro-whatever it is called (sorry too busy right now) two years ago my emission was boarder line, this time I have the who system flushed for about 30 mins (I'll let you know the product/process later when I have more time) a few days prior to my CT appointment - sailed through.  I just had to gather/do the paperwork (!!!!!) then off to DREAL.  Don't let them send you to Marseille or Paris for a Euro2000 certificate.  I was on the verge of having to do this when the boss off DREAL/Perpignan came in and said it wasn't necessary .... just had to have them checked by the police Euro84!

Must go!
