Head light Help

Head lights go up but will not go down without turning them by hand....anyone know whats going on here and how to fix?

down movement is electrically activated but gravity operated - likely gummed up mechanisms - very common - soak with tri-flow (not wd-40)

My headlights don't always go down when I shut them off. It seems if I turn the ignition key back on they drop down. But not always. Can the mechanism be lubed up without disassembly ? I have not taken a close look at the set up yet. Does it have a spring return ?

after the electric release, they are gravity fed on the down stroke - get yourself a can of tri-flow and squirt liberally on the entire mechanism

Exact same symptom. I got one stuck in teh up position on the Ortega run and had to decide whether to get left behind while "rebooting" the car, or stay with the group looking like a cyclops.

This is my latest issue - sort of. Headlights went up this morning and won't go back down. I tried to apply gentle pressure and they wouldn't budge. Fuses #2 and 37 are okay. Not sure what mine is, but I am thinking the "electricaly activated" part is effed up.

After a few years of troublefree ownership, I have had several electrical gremlins pop in in the last 5k miles or so. Car is at 185k, though.

there is a procedure in the manual for correct armature setting - it is possible that this has somehow gotten out of whack - if it isn't in the right spot, the release cannot happen, and then gravity won't take it down

You might try fuse # 16...headlamp motor close

Fuse 16 was okay. Realized I had already checked it. Didn't have time to troubleshoot it any more last weekend.
