he's at it again - new nav
#21

got the 362 mounted to its subassembly plate and connected to the system

got all the OEM wiring done and all the connection points for the deck done

got all the ancillary gear wired up

really only have to install the deck in the hole, connect the modules, slide the front amp into place and button it up

however, i am waiting on the new mirror and GPS radar detector - can't button it up until those are in

so, off to another project tomorrow while i wait

That is TOO familiar...

I have my iPod in the console, the connecting cable is run from the dash under the coin holder (it used to be called an ash tray) and through a slot I Dremeled in the console box. However, the iPod is controlled by the head unit. In an earlier approach, I had it in the glove box, but I found that very inconvenient for connecting/disconnecting. The arm rest compartment is much handier.

today's work - all installed and just about ready to program and tune - have to wait for the mirror and radar detector though - installing those requires disconnecting the battery again, and i'd lose everything - the rest arrives on tuesday - woohoo!

Flash,
how do you set up the rockford 3Sixty? By your calibrated ear or with sofware (pc or mac based spectrum analyzer)?

i'll be doing all of the above - i'll use a mac based analyzer to get me close, and then fine tune by ear for both top up and down modes - doing arenas and such, i started out using analyzers but always found they left me short of a truly good sound - they were fine for finding the big anomalies, but i always ended up tuning by ear - to this day i can walk into a show and still tell if they tuned by analyzer or by ear

I hope border control never sees this set up. They'll stop every late 44 and 68 that goes by...

roflmao - hadn't thought about that - funny stuff

almost ready to tune - just have to replace the battery - turns out that optima batteries don't like to sit for months - once i change that i can program and tune and not lose it all - of course, i have to also wait to finish the clutch, since i have to disconnect the battery for that too

next week

finally got a chance to play with the system today - it turns out that the rockford fosgate install instructions were wrong - there is a tech bulletin out about it - i was having a loud pop at turn off - i followed the instructions only to find that i had to move a power wire - better now - pop gone

anyway, wow what a unit - amazing control - i am zeroing in on the sound now - this is not for the average user though - i have been tuning half-million dollar p.a. systems for years now, and this is tough even for me - it's already better than i had before though

the nav system is a whole different story - it has all the things i hate about navs, and none of the cool stuff the pioneers have - sure, it will get me there and all that, but it is not nearly as easy to use, and lacks a couple of things i've come to like and use regularly - but, it's nav and it's built in, and i don't have to sacrifice space, features, or multi-tasking, so that's an improvement

in the end i'll be happy enough, so i'm glad i did it

programmed the homelink mirror today - woohoo! no more garage door remotes in the car - having 3 of those in the car was getting very old

also programmed the radar detector - very nice to see it in action - it picks up everything and displays a lot of stuff my previous unit did not

well, after a couple of trips, the bluetooth died - looks like the module - VERY annoying - major surgery to remove - it's all under warranty, but that's just parts - the 2 days of removing and reinstalling is all on me

arrrgh

the good news is that by the time i get this all working, i think the new version of the nav software will be out and i can finally get rid of the lame garmin format

it's a good thing i have to work on this car so often, because the tons of money i would be making if i weren't would really be a pain in the butt - yeah, that's it
