how will the sc kit work in conjunction with the current RSbarn stage 2 stuff? i understand the stage 2 chip is built around the full exhaust and airbox mod. so will everything still be in balance after installing the sc chip and full sc kit?

not likely - the kit will be developed, and more importantly, tuned for the factory exhaust

the stage 2 chip will go away and be replaced with a new chip - the header will likely require completely different tuning - while i am certain that the kit will work with the header, and might make another couple of horsepower, it would likely have the same kinds of tuning needs over the stock exhaust as it did when the stage 2 chip was developed for it

we are talking about it, and will let everybody know what we find out, but at this time, there are no plans to go beyond the OEM exhaust in the kit - i certainly won't be doing any tuning work in that direction - also, the header is not going to be part of the CARB kit, and will disqualify the certification, and thus fail smog (by the way, we will be losing those "magic zip codes" soon, so this is a big concern for those of us in california)

here are some shots of what i've been up to the last 3 days - the charge pipe and new upper radiator hose have been a challenge - after about $700 of bending and welding work, they aren't coated yet, and i'll post pics tomorrow of them in place, but for now, here ya go:

lol - yeah, but i had to drop my pants way down to make it work

anyway, the plumbing is just one of the things that will make this kit work better than others - silicone hoses are fine for couplers, but you have to be careful about how long they are, as you lose a lot of power in hose expansion and collapse - it also throws the mixture all wonky, as heat changes how that happens, which ultimately affects the volume of air, and therefore the mixture

i also got the blow off valve and its plumbing all done now, as well as the breather line - the bottom line is i now have all the plumbing done - i am only waiting on one part now, but that won't stop me from firing it up, nor testing

i will install these in the morning and post shots of the kit shortly thereafter

it looks like the weather will not be cooperating with me this weekend, so likely no testing, but i think monday it will be clear, and if i can get someone to ride shotgun, i should be good to go

You may pick up more sales with your previous post. On my list of things to do to my car over the next few years were RSB exhaust system/header and a stage 2 chip. This totals around 2K+ for me depending on the dollar. If this config will not be supported then that $2K is really a discount on the SC. Well, that's how it will get presented to the wife at some point anyway

lol - fair enough

while in theory the header and some other things might add to the output of the SC kit, it won't be by much (maybe 5-10hp), and will very likely require additional tuning i am not interested in doing any time soon (sorry guys - i'm tired) - the tuning we are doing is extensive, and will be code protected so that it cannot be broken into or copied - if you decide to try headers or anything else, you will be starting over

there are no plans to do any other tuning for at least the remainder of this year

that being said, headers can help an SC, but they don't behave on a forced induction setup entirely the same as they do on a normally aspirated engine, and in some cases can actually cost power - moreover it would probably only add most of it up top where this kit is not going to be focused on anyway - also, it is not in line with my goal or mission on this project

the goal was to produce a complete kit, with all the components and tuning, that looked and performed like it could have been done by the factory, and made big gains in the midrange where most people drive - i really wasn't focused on specific numbers, though there are "targets" that i think we all seek

i'm going to make this produce as much power as is safe and sustainable - i'm after as much as anybody else

something else to think about is that changing the kit in any way will void the warranty, so try it if you want, tune it however you want, but you do so entirely at your own peril

if somebody wants more than what this kit does, they really need to be thinking turbocharger and not centrifugal supercharger

ok - i spent some time this morning verifying the fitment of everything - ALL IS PERFECT!

please keep in mind that there are no clamps on anything yet, i have some hose trimming to do, etc, the MAF is not connected yet, and the front cover and airbox (essential components to any kit working properly) are not there yet - yada yada - all very small stuff that will take me an hour or so

p.s. - your hoses will likely be black - working on that right now

i'll have it all buttoned up tomorrow, but as promised, here's a teaser shot so you can see where things live and what it will look like:

I'm sure Ferdinand is all smiles! Looks perfect! How many do you estimate are going to be produced in the first batch? I'm all in as you know - can't wait!

not sure - i think we have at least 10 confirmed - it is very possible that we will take a small deposit to confirm orders, so that we can pull the trigger on production, and get a jump on the calendar, which just keeps ticking away - the kits are too costly to have them on a shelf, so we will only be making to order

to be clear though, these deposits would of course be refunded if the kit does not do what we have said, or in some way is not what we would want to market - there is absolutely no indication that this will be anything less than exactly what we want, but it is incumbent upon us to take that responsibility - this would only be a mechanism to allow those who want one to be assured of being included in the first batch

i will hash this out with pete today, and come up with something definitive
