Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!!

got sidetracked today - one of the members popped over so i could figure out the alarm, and we ended up diagnosing a cooling system issue too

i did get some work done on it, but it will be tomorrow before i get stuff bolted together

well, i got some time to work on this today (my real job has been monopolizing my time lately)

the first bracket mockup is done - the mounting plate mockup is now hanging on it - the blower is mounted, as are 2 of the pulleys

i'll get the other brackets tomorrow

all is going very well, though a bit slower than i had hoped, but still moving along

before anybody nuts out about the material, this is just easy to work with thin aluminum - the real parts will be quite stout

before the joke that this was the "piltdown blower" gets going, and since i promised some kind of pic, here is one of where this is going to live, and sort of what the plate will look like (no, it's not touching the radiator) - you can see that there will be plenty of room for the airbox to the left

Amazingly compact! Will the belt cover still be usable in some modified form, or will we have the thrill of watching the belt whip around the pulleys?

what belt cover? neither of my cars have a belt cover - if you are talking about the timing belt cover, there will be no changes to it - it stays in as is

but, i am adding an upper cover, just to keep things from falling down into the works - i couldn't show it here, because how it attaches doesn't work on the mockup piece

You passed the test - maybe this really is real!

(Actually, it was a delusional question on my part...not sure what I was thinking, other than that I haven't opened the hood and looked under it recently enough.)

was out all day with vendors on parts for this - back to working out brackets and such in about an hour, and then all weekend putting stuff together

i can see large chunks of this falling into place now

worked on it some more today

the oil cooler location and installation is now worked out and better than i could have hoped
i now have all of the ancillary pieces worked out, and will have those parts out for fab on tuesday
a couple of things left to refine on the mounting plate and brackets, and they go out at the same time
most of the plumbing is now worked out - i'll finish that on tuesday morning
i start on the airbox tomorrow, but i already have the design in my head, and am very confident

still on track for timing

still on track for pricing under $4k

on the 17th i am also going to be driving a couple of cars on the track that have this unit installed, so i will be able to get a good read on temps and things like that (not that i am at all concerned)

i am very pleased with how things are going - everything is coming out better than i expected

i think i should be able to show some real prototype pics in about a week, but i think i might be able to show complete mockup pics about the middle of this week

parts list almost complete now - a couple of nuts and bolts to add, and one part to fit check

the only part left to fabricate is the airbox (and that is going to be easy) - when the last few plumbing parts arrive, and i fit check everything to be sure i get the maximum size airbox, i can wrap up that mockup and send it out for fab

then it's just wait for the prototype parts to be made, install them and go for tuning

no unpleasant surprises yet

About the airbox, will you make it so that we are able to use the stock filter (or in my case a stock sized K&N)?

There's going to be a steady availability of modded air-boxes.

Just catching up with this thread. The only thing more impressive then Bob and Petes attention to detail and superb design is Bobs way of shutting down all the "but what about the" remarks. (see post above at 7:41 PM)

lol - ok - i couldn't find a post i made at 7:41

i am trying hard to answer questions before they get asked

no, you will not be able to use the OEM airbox or filter - a new one of each will be provided

i have to verify everything in the next day or so but:

the good news is that the new filter will be 28% LARGER in filtering surface area than stock, will be just as serviceable as stock, will cost LESS than the stock sized K&N, and is STILL a K&N

for those of you who think a K&N isn't up to the job, properly maintained it is the recommended filter by the supercharger company, and if they aren't worried about anything screwing up the blower spinning at 100,000rpm, neither am i

It's post 162.

I guess the forum takes into account our timezones and time stamps accordingly. So I guess your screen reads 3:41.
Also, when you start a reply the post numbers are no longer visible.

Sounds like a K&N cone filter with shielding.

just thought i would update:

i've been having to spend an inordinate amount of time on my real work over the last few days, but the show i am working on is friday, so that will be all over once i recover

also, the wife is in romania all week, and there have been some things to deal with here, taking me away form the garage during the hours i would normally spend down there

to top things off, somehow i managed to throw out my back and have not been able to walk well for 3 days now, and bending over the engine bay has been very painful (getting old sucks) - so, progress has been slow

but, i have still managed to make some progress:

i reworked the drive plate a bit to lighten it up and compact things a bit more
i made the charge pipe mockup

i ran into a hiccup i hadn't thought about - for me the answer was easy, but you guys are going to need to figure this one out for yourselves, as it won't be a part of the kit

what do you want to do about a boost gauge?

there are plenty of gauge plates out there to replace the clock box, but you would lose your clock and box, and if you had a 2D Nav system or something that wouldn't work anyway

there is a gauge pod for the left A-Pillar at 9xauto, but it is rather ricey looking and there isn't one for the cabs

something to think about - the gauge isn't necessary, but it's fun - i already have a gauge plate, so for me it's a no brainer

so, the 3 questions are:

do you want a gauge at all?
if so, where would you put it?
if so, which brand would you get? (egauges is a good source)

Isn't it possible to use a 951 tach with boost guage?

Or...

You can integrate it into the LCD replacement tach. The one that is being shipped with the new 6 speed tip conversion kit.

uh - yeah sure - give me 20 minutes and i'll have that knocked out - mother of pearl surround ok?

as for the 951 gauge, not sure - no idea how it gets its input - i suppose it's possible, but that would be something for somebody else to figure out

LOL - jut kidding about the LCD stuff.

I am not sure how the 951 gauge works either, all I know is that it uses a vacuum line.
