small glimmer of hope. i may be able to get a gear done in time. we'll see.
the problem is that the only gears that fit our shaft diameter are WAY too tall in ratio. while it would be nice to drop the rpms a bunch, the .600 gear that is out there would drop them so much that i would be right back where i started with the stock layout and power, with not enough torque to pass without downshifting. plus, the spacing of the gears would have sucked, and that would then require changing other gears to try to even out the spacing
in the end, i would have ended up with a gearbox that felt like a pickup truck, with wide gear spacing. there is a reason that performance cars have close ratio boxes and not wide ones. i don't think i need to try to rethink what we already know.
if this turns out to be still too low of a gear, then i will change the ring and pinion. i am just not sure i will have enough torque to push it. i think they did a pretty good job on most of the gearbox, and had they have added a bit more power, just messing with 6th a bit would do it.
so, one way or the other, i am going to get 6th changed. i just don't know yet if it will be a custom gear, or a modified gear, and whether it will happen now, or in a few months.
we'll see today.
i wonder how many more of the supercharger guys would be interested in a taller 6th?
