Gas prices

Filled up our SUV today ( my wife usually drives it and often ignores the gas gauge until it triggers the reserve light alert )  . Glad I was wearing a face mask because it comes in handy when I have to rob a bank to pay for the fill up .  A 25 gallon tank, at $ 5.59 / gallon.

Quit your bitchin. It makes more sense to buy Saudi Arabian gas than USA gas. I mean like totally, it has further to travel.

approximately how many miles do you drive in a year ?  ( total, not just 968 )

was just thinking if anyone has a right to really bitch about gas prices it’s Kim ( up in Canada )  who drives , or at least used to drive  , an insane amount of miles annually… although I have no clue how much gas typically costs there ..and if it varies vastly from province to province as it does here by state ..

I would say at least 3-4000 miles in the 968, 6-7000 in the A4, 10,000 plus in the Volvo XC60, and 1000 miles on the V4 honda

Wow, that’s quite a bit !   The media here spews statistics purporting that the average European drives less than 50 % of the average U.S person ( at least those who live in metropolitan areas ) by virtue of the extraordinary public transportation network in almost every country there,  smaller distances, and unlike lazy-ass Americans who will drive to the store 300 yards down the street to pick up just a loaf of bread , most Europeans will walk there .   Your mileage certainly doesn’t reflect that , lol .   That’s pretty damn close to what I put on my cars in a year ..

Statistics are an American forte

But almost all USA 968s are stupid low mileage, mine is 163k

My friends Sport has done 225k miles

I might not use my A4 for 4-5 weeks then do 1000 miles in a week, I bought the A4 for the high mile journeys as it does 55mpg at 80mph

I use the 968 at least 2-3 times a week, they hate sitting around unused

Dan.  I still drive a lot.  This year 120,000 km - about 75,000 miles.  Gas (87 octane) is now $1.35/Litre - about $6.35 US /US gallon.  During the start of the pandemic it was as low as $0.67 Canadian/litre.

I now drive a Ford Escape Hybrid that gets about 50 mpg (Canadian) - about 41.6 mpg (US gallons).  That helps.

Any metrics on purchasing land and building a charging station?

My son works for a clean energy company. They develop sites for charging stations at places like Hotels apartment buildings, retail stores and malls. The stations are not inexpensive to build, costing between $200K to $400K to build. The way his business operates is to seek out property owners who are willing to give up the foot print occupied by the charging station. A third party comes in and builds the station. The property owners gets an upfront payment and then a small piece of the revenue generated by the charging station on.

The only way any electric vehicle is Eco-friendly is when the electricity to power it comes from a renewable source.

Chris I think that is a point most miss. Certainly the location most have traffic to make the investment worthwhile. Do they conduct the appropriate studies to find suitable locations?

RAP, they do research the proposed areas to determine whether there is sufficient a volume of traffic. The construction cost for a high speed charging station is between $200K and $400K they definitely need high volume usage in order to recoup the cost of the install. Interestingly, he has been meeting Mayors and City Managers who are interested in having charging stations installed in City Parking lots to entice buyers to shop locally while they car charged.
