Disasters and other emergencies
#1

With the current fires devastation in Southern California,  someone on our local NextDoor forum posted this “evacuation” list , which I think is helpful and useful ,  for fires, floods, storms, tornadoes, etc.,

Perhaps my most difficult decision in such an event would be which guitars to grab.   And I’ll be driving out in the SUV and leaving the 968 behind based on luggage capacity.   I am cyber friends with James Taylor’s bass player on another forum who lives in LA.   He had to evacuate, took three of his basses, and had to leave two behind.

Bill, tgo

I live in the urban interface wildfire zone here in Sant Rosa. The check sheets you published will be extremely useful. The one addition I will make will be note where in the house items are located so they can very quickly be retrieved.

I have been watching video clips of the water bombing efforts. There is some really extraordinary flying being done. It is all taking place very close to the ground in an airmass that is unstable due to the winds and thermals from the fire. Incredibly difficult flying, comparable to flying ground strike missions, absent being shot at, but performed in aircraft never designed for the purpose they are being put to. I am in awe.

Yes, and the accuracy with which the pilots are able to disburse the water, especially considering the high wind conditions, is nothing short of amazing.

These are from a friend's back porch in LA two days ago...

Scary stuff - He had to evac once, but is back at home, but the car is still ready and packed...
