Gas prices

Quote:The only way any electric vehicle is Eco-friendly is when the electricity to power it comes from a renewable source.
Agreed, pointless having charging stations supplied from coal fired plants, and then there's the battery manufacturing and recycling. There's a long way to go to get past the political hype.

Why do we hear so little about hydrogen conversations? I rarely carry anything in the boot/trunk ..... I'd rather have my 968 with no boot space than no 968 at all.

PS Anyone else keep getting asked if they're a robot? Am I being victimised for my tag?? Smile

We’re at over $ 6 / gallon at a few stations here in NorCal .. heard SoCal may be worse ( $ 6.50-ish ) in some spots but haven’t been  able to confirm that ..

Joe says we should just suck it up and be fine with paying more for gas. Easy for him to say, he's not shelling out the bills to fill the armored land yacht, we are.

Weird to complain about gas prices in Northern California when people here find it perfectly normal to pay $ 1.5 million for a 2 br. , 1,500 sq.ft .  “ needs work “  home on a small patch of land that’s barely 2,000 sq.ft. itself ..

Yea my son and daughter in law went looking. Even in the undesirable areas it was over a million.

They don't print enough money to even make me want to visit Calif.

Why complain about the cost of gas. We have to support the Russian war effort and the 600,000 barrels of oil putin sends us daily. His humanitarian efforts help keep us in gas.

Wow .   I didn’t check our prices in about four days since I last filled up one of the cars but I’d expect a similar surge .   I think PA and CA have the highest prices in the U.S. , with NY close by..   And many companies here are starting their “ back to the office “ M.0. this month ,with just about all the rest joining in next month so commuting daily at these gas prices which are probably not going to get any better for many months to come will cause a lot of wallet dents ..and heartache .

Nobody wants to pay more for gas, or anything else, for that matter, but to put it into perspective, assuming 12,000 miles driven per year in a car that gets 25 mpg, an increase of $1/gal costs an extra $480/year, or $40/month.  Now, granted, gas has gone up A LOT more than $1/gal over the past year+, but that's coming off artificially deflated prices thanks to the pandemic. Of course, an increase in the price of gas disproportionately hurts lower income folks.  If only there were a viable, short term alternative...

That’s true,  the lower income folks always suffer the most .. for many gardeners who drive pick up trucks ( vehicles not really known for great mpg economy ) or fast food , or basic services workers , many who work for minimum wage , those increases translate to a sizable added financial burden.

Well as Kammy says, “ look guys you got what you voted for”. As the economy starts to reopen one can only imagine the stifling effect gas prices will have.  Ds you’re right, the lower income people will suffer the most with no where to turn. In two weeks my first event is scheduled and I don’t look forward to the price of 100 octane. Last year it was $11.88 a gallon.

Don’t know where exactly this station was because I just caught the end of the news report but the video showed a Chevron station with 91 oct.  at $ 7.49  !!   It was on one of the local channels so I suspect it’s probably in San Francisco .  But I’m sure they showed that as an extreme example, driving around yesterday I noticed most of the stations on my usual route between $ 6.30 and $ 6.60.

I’ll probably switch my daily driver from the Maserati to one of the other cars which gets much better gas mileage, given the 50 miles a day , in increasingly heavy traffic with even higher stop and go consumption, and no prices relief in sight ( I keep hearing predictions of $ 9 - $ 10 soon ) it can add up to a significant incremental increase .   I’d drive the 968 , but the main reason I stopped using it as a commute car is the continuous bumper to bumper traffic, does not make for too much fun shifting out and into first gear every few seconds ..

I wonder how high gas prices will have to go to get people to change their driving habits.  I used to commute in a vanpool, but Covid shuttered that operation.  I know a lot of people, particularly in the US, don't have many options, making gas a relatively inelastic commodity, but I wonder if there will ever come a point where people actually figure out ways to drive significantly less, or as Dan is planning, switch to more economical vehicles.  And it isn't just about trying to save some money - cutting fuel demand is one of the most effective things we can do worldwide to put the squeeze on that barbaric thug Putin.

And of course it increases the pressure to go electric, which always is in the money makers minds
