"Funny" Cenral Locking / Alarm
#1

Hi guys,

I have something strange going on with my central locking. It is not a big problem, but I would like to take care of this eventuially, and maybe one of you has an idea of where to start.

Problem 1: Ususally, I lock and unlock the car from the drivers side, and this works fine. However, when the car gets wet for a few hours, unlocking the drivers side does not unlock the passengers side anymore. The locking function keeps working fine. When the cars dries out, this goes away and eveything works OK again.

Problem 2: Locking/unlocking the passengers side does nothing to the drivers side. I suspect that it may be something mechanical since I here the motor go, but the pin on the door does not move.

Problem 3: Using the locking switch inside of the car only works on the passangers side. This may be realted problem 2.

The big one is really problem 1. 2+3 don't really bother me that much.

Does anyone have an idea what could cause that kind of behaviour?

The locking mechanism has three main components. The first is the microswitch that detects if the key's been turned (10 in the subsequent diagram). That sends the signal to the central locking to unlock the other door. The second is the mechanical link between the lock cylinder mechanism and the mechanical lock on the door. The third is the actuator (1 in the subsequent diagram) that locks/unlocks the doors via a command from the central locking mechanism.

Edit:

Problem 2 & 3 are most certainly that the link (the part labeled 2) has worked come loose on the driver's side door. It's an easy fix, popping the link back on to the appropriate ball, but requires taking off the inner door bits.

Problem 1, if I had to guess, would be the driver's side microswitch. The mechanical link is obviously working, since you can unlock the door. The actuator isn't working, based on problems 2 & 3.

In what state are the rubber gaskets around the door handle? And the seal at the bottom of the window? Water could be causing a short in the microswitch on the door handle, or it could be accumulating in the bottom of the door and causing a short in the connector.

Good luck and let us know what you find!

Thanks a whole bunch - this was exactly what I was looking for! Gotta love this forum!

I will deal with problem 2+3 next year - I live in upstate New York and my garage is not heated, so I don't feel like spending any extended period of time there right now ...

As for problem 1, I think you are right, the moisture must short out the switch. I will take a look at this as well when the panel is off. What I did in the short term is to spray lubricant/oil into the lock. This made the mechanism go easier, and it also pushes out the moisture. The central locking started to work again, either because of the spray, or it just dried out on its own.

I guess the lesson is that my Porsche just doesn't like to be driven in the rain (which I do only rarely, anyway). <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

My "new" car has a strange but consistent issue with the central locking.

1. Hitting the central locking switch locks and unlocks the passenger door only.

2. I lock the driver door and passenger door separately, and they do not react to each other but when I unlock the driver door, it also unlocks the passenger door. Unlocking the passenger door does not unlock the driver door.

At first I thought maybe it was the microswitch in driver door but if it opens the passenger door, then it must be ok? Perhaps driver door actuator? I took the driver door apart, and everything is at least connected. The door seals are shot, so I'm sure water has soaked everything in the door. I didn't feel like taking apart the door handle to check and clean the microswitch but maybe that will be my next task.
