Do you know what the condition of the tensioner was/is. Is it still within proper spec.?

MB, be aware it's not necessarily something you can visually inspect for - some of the timing belts snap without any fraying or cracking.

No idea, I don't think anyone paid attention to that because there was no need to do so considering it was going to be replaced anyway..the balance belt just attracted curiosity because it was intact and in great shape, while the timing belt looked like a separated celery stem with fibers everywhere..

Cloud, I don't think I would replace it at this time, my car sits a full 7 months a year and I don't worry about it. That being said, because mine and I think yours see a lot of track use, I don't' wait for mileage, but change both belts every two years, period. Heat and chemical attack are polymer killers, UV also, just not in this case. We'll see though how it goes this winter, as now I have the DS1 super charger and it looks more challenging to change the belts. I wonder if the SC belt needs a more frequent change also?

like any belt, the SC belt needs changing when it shows wear, either by visual or elastic inspection. it should be good for 50k miles, but as a rule track use accelerates belt wear by 300% for each hour used like that. double sided belts stretch and wear twice as fast as single sided belts. calculate accordingly.
