Recently on EBay, I saw a 968 Engine Compartment Storage Box for bid.

It is supposed to fit around the air filter box. Our 95 Cab doesn't have one there now, so this was a new part to me. Were they standard equipment (previously removed on our car)or an option or a coupe thing and not a Cab item?

German auto dismantlers usually have them. They seem to get a lot of wrecked 968's.

I just picked one up from them for $85 including shippping.

IMHO, this is a very nice addition to the engine compartment. It can involve absolutely no work to install other than putting it in place - it will stay with no fasteners. If you also add the rear cover, you really clean up the look.

yes, they were standard issue on cars through early 94 (the 718 code cars) - early 92s even had an ambossed image of a pair of gloves on the flap door - later cars deleted both that cover, and the one that compliments it at the rear, as well as the mounting brackets for it



some have fabricated brackets for it, but, as anchorman says, it wil just sit in there fine without the brackets



the cover does provide some benefit to the airbox modification



on my car it has been taken one step farther and is integral to the engine bay air management modifications

I like the finished look of my cover/box and it does attach with two quarter-turn lock/unlock fasteners and complimentary brackets. I can't imagine any coming without the fasteners and brackets. The gloves are also kinda cute. One small disadvantage is that you cannot easily disconnect the hood light connector to turn off the light for extended work without removing and setting aside the cover. I may eventually add a discrete switch for this purpose.

lol - perhaps - i have definitely been under the car too long



obviously i was talking about all the new parts i designed to work with the 3 belly pan pieces to help control the air in the engine bay - the result has been a reduction in underhood temps, which have lowered intake and oil temps, as well as what should be increased downforce



tom - thanks - it just dawned on me that the wire down there was for the switch - i have been disconnecting it at the light because i am missing the little black piece that covers it - i will now be installing a switch just as you describe

There is another way to disable the hood light, namely to jam a screwdriver into the hood latch/switch mechanism. This accomplished two things:



1. It turns off the light.

I called Parts Heaven 10 minutes ago, and got one for my car also. Someone just brought in a rear-ended 968 <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ( sad day.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) but the front is intact, the box supposedly in perfect shape, so I parted with $ 125..



This only two days after I ordered the RS Barn strut tower brace, so a four hundred dollar week so far and it's only Wednesday <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



Now if I can find a way to unload the KLA brace <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

lol - too funny - while i certainly think the cover looks better, i'm not sure i would have run right out and bought one - the performance benefits are minimal, and i'm not so sure you'll think it was money well spent



but, we all know you're loaded anyway, and just looking for things to spend money on



to rub salt in the wound, i am going to be ordering new ones for my car, because i have a couple of scratches on them

ouch - that sucks - we are seeing entirely too many of these cars being totaled lately



this is one of the reasons i am glad i have removed my bumper though - with the bumper in place, a front end collision transfers the impact to both subframe rails, leaving neither one straight - being a unibody car, there is therefore no reference point for the frame machine to lock onto so it could be straightened - they cannot then guarantee that the car will drive straight after all the work, and they don't want ot eat the job



the bumpers are only effective up to 5mph anyway - after that they just tangle things up - the front one has no interaction with any other component of the car - it doesn't hold anything up, and nothing connects to it



with it removed, now, at least i have a chance of only bending one if i have such an accident - pretty grey area in legality, and certainly not something i could recommend to anyone else, but worth the risk to me



i'll keep my eyes peeled - anything specific you are looking for in the car?

Thanks guys, I've begun to look in these forums, Rennlist, eBay, etc. Many nice examples out there, just waiting to see what the insurance company will give me to spend. Certainly it will not be what I have into her but oh well. Not sure if I really want to deal with the importing process but will have no choice if I want a 968 again, there are literaly none here in Canada for sale.



Then again, the Canadain dollar at .95 to the US for the first time in 30 years sure makes it easier..... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

my scratches are minimal - i am just looking for concours perfect - i am fully prepared to buy it new to get there - i'm going to do the same thing with the rear cover, and the lid of the airbox
