Engine Compartment Covers
#1

On the PCA Mart there is an ad for a front and rear cover from a 1992 968...thought I'd pass this along to anyone looking.

My 968 has the front cover with the little compartment and cute little white gloves. I like it except that you can't easlily turn off the engine compartment light, for example to charge the battery, without removing the cover for access to the light connector. Someday I will install a discrete on/off switch.

The '92 covers are the ones with the glove icon right? (as opposed to flat, with no icon)

+2 My 93 does NOT have the hands on the cover. I wondered about that, now I know. Thanks

I'm looking for the front cover on my '94 cab. Is this different then from the one on the PCA site?

They souldn't be any different, except the little hands on the glove holder. there is also the cover that goes over the wires/hoses at the back of the engine (just an fyi). btw, as I understand it; after 93 they stopped putting the covers on, so your 94 wouldn't have one from the factory(but they sure look nice)

It could also be a leftover '93 rebadged as a '94 which may let it have one.

I noticed a '94 cabriolet on ebay that has the covers. It's serial number is much earlier than my '94 which does not have the covers. Any idea how I could tell if my car EVER had covers?

My 94 is a hold over '93 and did not have the covers but does now as I picked them on eBay. The one on eBay probably added them after the fact.

If it's a late 94 chances are good that it didn't (they stopped after 93), but as Mark mentioned an early 94 may really be a re-badged 93 and could have them. BTW all 968's have the mounts for the covers so putting them on is easy, so even the on on e-bay may not have come with them.

Actually 94 and 95 do not have the mounts for the front one, but it rests quite comfortably in there without them

I could swear I saw them in some of the pics of engines of those years, Oh well I stand corrected

My 95 did not have the front mounts. They are a simple 'L' bracket part which can be attached to the sheet metal very easily. The stock brackets are black and need to be ordered with the spring clips that the plastic covers contain. I found front and rear covers on Ebay. In my opinion the covers hide wires and cables on the back firewall and clean up the front area as well as blend in the air filter box nicely.
