Dyno testing
#21

So basically header and cams should do the trick, what's the difference between the two types (cams). How much is attributable to the airbox mod? Is this the standard mod we have been hearing about for awhile now? Thanks,

ON EDIT: I guess I missed the fact one needs the high flow cat as well. Wouldn't we be getting a few extra ponies with your new cat back as well, over this system with the stock after cat setup?

I would think to get the most out of the cam/header/exhaust upgrades, one would need to re-configure the runners in the head. Also the limit of the intake may be realized.

I know it would a challenge to compile the info, but it would be interesting to see what the stock vs. aftermarket increase is on each component. This way the customer would able to see what would give the biggest bang for a given budget.

If all this can be done without an increase in emissions, this should be a popular upgrade.

this has been fun to watch, and we are all excited by the possibilities

give pete some time - he'll put to gether the info in a form everybody can see and understand, and i am sure it will answer all the questions

but, rather than hitting him with a series of individual questions, and before this spins into a 10 page q&a session, taking him away from the work, and his wife and kids, how about we give him a few days to finish the testing and prepare the data?

i know i've monopolized a lot of his time, which i appreciate him giving me, but i also know how much it has distracted him, having been on the other side of that equation all too often

he is very motivated to finish this, and more importantly get it right, leaving no doubts as to its effectiveness - i am probably the least patient person i know, and it's hard for me to wait for this, but i also realize that the more i bug him, the longer it is going to take

Bob Have you become the Den Dad..?

If he sees the posts add up, that should equate to potential customers, [cha-ching]! If I was him and saw the posts dropped off I'd think people were losing interest. I'm sure he'll tackle the ?'s when he has time, I can wait...

been doing a lot of introspective analysis lately, and this one really paralleled my own experience

i have been talking to him a lot, and have a pretty good understanding of what he is going through - early release of info has already caused him a couple of hiccups he'd rather not have to deal with

he knows all the questions that people are going to ask - it's pretty standard stuff when it comes to that - however, just as when i am trying to develop something, the work often precludes the ability to adequately answer questions, and then it appears like we don't care, or are ignoring people - the reader only sees what is posted, and has no idea about how time involved it is to do stuff like this

i am very confident that pete is putting together everything that everybody will need to feel very comfortable about the stuff, and have all their questions answered - to stop now though and answer them one by one, is going to do everybody a disservice, only add more questions, in a never ending very disracting spiral, all of which would be answered if folks just waited until he was ready, and let it out all at once

we are all very excited about this - we all want it yesterday - we've seen this before though - the biggest mistake i made was letting people in on something before i was ready to present all the information - it was very painful, and i don't want to see pete go through that same process - it almost made me quit a couple of times - it's ahrd though not to want to share the enthusiasm with people that have the same interests

i don't think the market for his stuff will be affected by the posts now , or lack thereof - when he posts the data, and it shows that it works beter than everything else out there, it will sell itself - i've seen first hand how sales can be hurt by presenting the information in bits and pieces, or prematurely, only in an atempt to appease the public, and it would be sad to see that happen again

unfortunately there are some people out there that are very critical of everything new, especially if they aren't doing it themselves - i've been accused of it too, and in conjunction with pete - fortunately that was easily cleared up, and he and i get along great

questions are great - but rather than ask them before the data is presented, i think we are all better served by waiting for him - he'll post the info when he has it together in a form that can be understood

Just a quick reply, I am actually trying to get lots of stuff done at once and don't seem to get much of anything done.

I offer repaired cams and performance cams (1 model) the others I tested didn't have an overall powerband I was looking for.

Thanks for volunteering to be moderator and father (fatherator?), but I believe we and Pete are adult enough to decide when it is appropriate to ask questions and respond. It is not like we car calling him on the phone all the time. Just let Pete speak for himself.

and i'm sure he will - when he is ready - i am not trying to speak for him

i'm only saying that we should wait until he is ready - the premature back and forth is counter-productive - he has already indicated he is very busy working on it, and will let us know when everything is ready - questions before then are detractive

you yourself said i should have waited until i was done to release information - you criticised me and told me that i brought the endless back and forth q&a on myself by prematurely discussing projects

are you saying now that you were in error then?

personally, i think you were right then, and i am relating that experience to others in hopes of heading off a similar situation

Bob,

I think it's called "synergy" [sp?] when many collaborate/dicuss a topic. And, fortunately there are a number of talented folks in this forum. Perhaps someone will bring up something he hasn't considered, so the ?'s can be very productive.

Just live & let live he'll get to the ?'s in due time....

When a project takes over a year and lots of dollars you tend to be more patient.

It's hard for me to post on three forums and get anything done. I have tried to give as much information as I feel comfortable with and not lead anybody on with false claims.

We have also had discussions about how to present information so it isn't misinterpreted and open to crazy discussions.

I can simplify performance gains in general terms and hopefully this helps

Chip nice gain

Chip + airbox 2x nice gain

Header,chip airbox 2x above

Cam,header,chip,airbox 2x above

On the Eddy Current Load dyno we are using for testing and tuning the car puts out between early and late 993 hp. Somewhere in the 270-285 range

When I finalize testing and tuning of stage 3 head along with these components I will take to a different type of dyno for more industry consitant numbers for everyone to mull over.

If anyone needs any more clarification they can pm or call me.

Pete
