Do I need new fender skirts
#1

I recently purchased a sweet 94 coupe that apparently ran into a couple of curb stops along the way. The lower bumper cover (chin) needs to be reattached to the car. I noticed that the outboard attachment points require mounting to the fender skirts. Whatever was there is now gone.

Do I need to run out and purchase new fender skirts to hold up my bumper cover.

Thanks

i'm not clear which piece you are trying to attach

the front bumper cover (body color) attaches to the fenders with 3 screws on each side - there are clips that catch those screws, that slide onto the lip of the fender

the lower black plastic pan attaches to the bumper cover with a series of screws that also are caught by similar clips, as well as 3 machine screws that run into the bottom of the radiator support - on each end of the pan, there is a swedged in machine screw that passes through a hole in the bumper cover and is retained with a nut

hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. It is the lower black plastic piece I was referring to. Your description helps. In the area towards the back between the bumper cover and the radiator support it looked like there was some fastening to the inner fender skirt going on. It looked a little chewed up and I was wondering if pieces of the skirt was missing.

I have a new black plastic piece coming so it maybe more obvious once a intact piece shows up.

So I interpret you're saying, to the best of your recollection, no attachments goes on between the cover and the fender skirt. Correct?

If so I might be missing some mounting points on the bumper cover itself.

Anybody repair these things? It looks great from the top side but a little beat up on the very bottom.

Thanks

ok - lets get straight on what we're talking about - the bumper cover is the polyurethane body color nose of the car - what you call the fender skirts i guess are the fenders - the black plastic piece we will call the front pan

yes, there are 3 screws on each side that connect the bumper cover to the fenders - if you didn't have them, the bumper cover would seriously be hanging down

to remove the bumper cover, there are a whole bunch of screws holding the front pan on - one at the rearward end that is a machine thread that takes a nut, and a series of sheet metal screws along the front edge, and 3 10 mm hex head machine screws at the rear that go up into the radiator support

you gain access to the above mentioned screws that connect the fender to the bumper cover by removing the hex head screw that is in the inner fender well plastic - peel back the plastic and you can gain access to the 3 screws that go up through a metal bracket and into the fender - they are 8mm hex heads

then there are 4 phillips head screws that go down through a metal bracket in the front of theengine bay - take care not to lose the spacers below - remove all 4 screws and the bracket

gently pull the bumper cover forward while supporting it (this is easier with 2 people) and then disconnect the cables that go to the back of the lights

remove the cover - now you can see what is going on in there

if we are talking about some other piece of the car, please let me know
