I had a new starter put in only 100 miles ago it is possible I got a bad one I guess. Is there anyway to test it to see if that is the problem? Also what is the relay that would effect the starter? Thanks for any help

If the engine turns over, then it's probably not the starter. Engine turning over but not starting is indicative of either a fuel problem or a spark problem. DME relays are a known weak point in this car, and they will cause a no-start condition.



Try working through the procedures listed at Clark's garage under "Engine Will Rotate But Not Start"

Heard from my mechanic today I needed a fuel pressure regulator replaced. I hope this fixes my starting problem. Cost $200.00 labor and $140.00, What do u think? Should this work? Thanks

Well I drove the 968 for the first time at night and found out the light on the speedometer and gauges is very deem could hardly see the speed, also the little green lights on the console for the rear wiper, hatch, side mirrors are all not working at all. Does any one kjnow if there is an easy DIY way to repair these problems? Thanks for any help or info

The speedo light issue is common. It is a fairly easy DIY, though it requires taking off the steering wheel. I replaced my lights with three LEDs and that fixed the brightness problem, without re-chroming the light tunnels. (see http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles...oblems.htm for the general guage removal procedure)



I'm not sure about the console lights, but mine aren't working either so that's on my list of things to do..

I had my instrument cluster in and out about three times this weekend. I did not have to remove the steering wheel. It's actually quite easy to get it out.

What a frustrating day tried to put the belly pan front one and middle back on car only to find out they r the wrong ones. The front and middle r for a 944 holes do not line up among other thing!!! what a disaster! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/drama.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Good to see a 968 getting some love and people fixing the "little" things. Just makes another 968 out there a much better car (and if you believe in Khama, a happier car too boot).

If that's the case, I've got a huge store of karma stored up. My latest folly was realizing that the bottom radiator support took a good whack at one point -- so now the bat wing (front apron) and middle pan don't line up quite right.



Nothing the trusty BFH won't fix.

craigawoosman, thanks for encouragement, I purchased the oldest 968 coupe in US and really thought I could bring it back up to good running condition but I am finding far more difficult than I thought it would be. The previous owner gave me alotof fause truths about the conditionof the car and it had but repaired very cheaply and sloppitly if the past. Now I am pouring money into it just to get all the parts correct to 968 and running strong. I still love the looks of the car but it is trying <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/beer.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

hot, it's a give-and-take and not for everyone. Depending on the car, it can really eat you up sometimes. My last P-car, a 944S, was that car for me. I loved it to death, and it was nearly the death of me in maintenance costs. I finally just had to sell it. Kudos to you for at least trying!

not that it is necessarily your problem, but take a good look at the wires that go to the starter. you have to peel back the sheath over the outside, but there are wires in there that lose their insulation. when they do, they corrode. they have also been known to short out.



it's "grinding"? that's an engagement issue. gummy starter syndrome would be my first guess too. pretty typical. i finally replaced my starter. much better now.

tamathumper, still trying to work on my car I hope I don't get to the point u did with your 944S but it is giving me a real pain every time I work on some thing I find it has been half a -ssed and not the right parts or way to do things. I am having a hard time finding some of the parts I need but I just can't see putting any old thing that may work in the car. I just put on a new hatch seal and found a grommet that should be on the wire to the defrosters was wrong and fell through the hole when I tried to make it look better <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/beer.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Ah, the proverbial "Previous Owner Damage". Yes, my last two cars had tons of that, more than I could stomach in the end. But this car seems to be blissfully absent that, all things considered. I recommend taking it one thing at a time, taking enormous pride in those things you can fix or restore, and *not* keeping track of the nickels and dimes. It's a labor of love, but there's a reason the labor comes before the love. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

testing the fan relay. Front door was locked, window down. pulled the door lock up, next thing you know, i'm holding a plastic door lock cap 2" long, 1/4 around in my hand, looking at the LED dangling from the door. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Which forum tells me how to fix that? I guess I have to take the door apart? it still locks, but for safety reasons, not sure I'd lock it while driving until fixed.

oh boy - that's a fun job. i just did that. any way to just put it back together? i ran mine like that, with a dab of superglue, for years until i snapped it clean off and finally had to change it out.
