electric hatch release won't work
#1

Hello, this has me stumped! The button on the left interior by the door opening is an electric release for the hatch. Mine is absouletly stuck or some thing. There is no give and take when I try and press it nothing moves in the button itself. I realize it should pivoit press up or down but this doesn't move at all? Any ideas could the button itself be faulty?

It does sound like it's the switch. Sounds like it could be a good candidate for the Sunset Imports tent sale described in another thread, if you can wait that long.

I think mine only pivots when I press on the bottom half?

Could be some debris caught in the toggle as it is near the dirt of the mats and shoe ingress. Try some compressed air or maybe a small wire jiggled behind the toggle.

DaveN, thanks so much for the advice I took a can of air and sprayed the switch and it started to move! So I cleaned it real good with air and now it is working. Who would have thought so easy. Now I have a problem with the head lights. I cannot seem to move the headlights out all the way forward like they show in the owners manual. It says to turn the release handle till they r forward but it doesn't work for me. This is a vehicle that was left neglected in a barn and exposed to elements for 8 years so all these little things not working r relsted to that. Any ideas how I can move the light all the way forward? The motor works and does lift them.

Yes, that little "triangular" tab on the headlight mechanism has to be pulled toward the center of the car, IIRC.

thanks so much they work perfect now BUT today I finally looked under car because of the gas smell and it ends up my gas tank is leaking! I hope it is not to much work to change it and install a new one. I figure about 2 years and I will completely rebuild this car

Is the tank itself leaking, or is there something dripping from on top of the tank?

It seems to be the tank itself leaking. I put it on lift and cleaned the area and where the metal strap the holds tank in place and the fiberglass tank ther is alot of dirt and the leak is right where the medal rubs the tank. I think it eventually wore a small hole there.

Is it a candidate for something like Gas Tank Renu?

Just noticed I have relatives that live only a few miles away from Holbrook, to the east - I thought I recognized that name.

I'm upstate near Saratoga Springs. Relatives aren't into p-cars as far as I know. Gas Tank Renu is a repair process, with dealers in different regions. A google will bring it right up.
